Cheechoo/ Modin

Just wondering what people thought of maybe signing him to a one yr deal. IMO DL would be smart to at least invite him to training camp. Obviously his numbers have really dropped the last few years but he was one of SJ's better players in the playoffs against ANA in 2008-09. Thoughts?

Also Modin really seemed to fit in well on the 3rd line with Handzus and Simmonds. He also played well in the playoffs. Maybe a one yr deal around $1M allowing Poni to take the top line LW spot?

No thank you. This team needs more speed, not less speed. All you can bank on is hope that they are injury free and can contribute. Too much risk.

With Poni on the 3rd line, there's no room for either of these guys in the bottom 6.

They can't score enough to be used in a top 6 role.

And there's just something about Cheechoo that gets on my nerves. I despise him.

We got too many 3rd line types on this squad. This team needs speed, scorer, top 6 winger. Period.

No thanks on CheeChoo (you Chee Choo Choose me).

Not even as an invite.

He has other problems than his ability to play the game of hockey.

Cheechoo needs somebody like Thornton who can feed him the puck to be good. If we had that type of player, Frolov would still be on the team.

Afinogenov, yes, Selanne? He's either signing with the Ducks or retiring.

I'll take Maxim for a 1 year deal if DL strikes out on trades also.

I saw this movie about a bus that had to SPEED around a city, keeping its SPEED over fifty, and if its SPEED dropped, it would explode! I think it was called "The Bus That Couldn't Slow Down."

I think it's highly unlikely that it's going to happen now that they've signed Ponikarovsky.

Modin was apparently acquired because he was comparable to Ponikarovsky who they couldn't get at the trade deadline. As in, now that they have their Lexus they don't have to keep the cheaper Toyota model that they rented in the meanwhile.

Quote:
He (Ponikarovsky) was a guy we went after hard at the trade deadline. Then when we couldn’t get him, we went to a guy with, I guess, a similar m.o., in Freddy Modin. You can see that the m.o. is the same, but I think that this guy, because he skates so well, was considered Option A at the trade deadline.

In terms of Modin, I wouldn't mind having him back for a couple more years. Though he's no longer young enough to fit into our top 6, he certainly demonstrated top 6 ability in the playoffs.

I can easily see Modin as a bottom 6 role player/veteran presence who can play a huge part on our powerplay's 2nd unit, perhaps chipping in a little PKing every now and then.

However, in terms of Cheechoo..........
