Everyone does. That doesn't stop trades.

Again, I am pretty sure Eklund made this up like every other rumor on his site.

Just saying, it's - for once - not the worst idea

Bieksa doesn't so moving him is easier than trying to get Salo to waive and causing waves in the room.

*shrug*

Ultimately I suspect all that matters is who the Canucks want to move. If they are more comfortable with Bieksa than Salo, they'll do what they can to move Salo. And vice versa.

Bieksa is just a matter of completing a trade.

With Salo they need to have him waive a NTC which if he refuses can make for an unhappy player and create waves.

Thanks for the info.

I had no idea what a no trade clause was.

On the Canucks...

I have a key Vancouver source today who has promised me an update on Bieksa/Salo and the Canadiens, as well as informing me what would come back to Vancouver...I will update as soon as I hear.

I can't see a trade coming until Montreal has had time to assess where their real needs lay. Whether it be a top 6 forward or top 2 defenseman will determine who they go after witht he amount of cap space they will have. If you pro rate the amount of space they have, it's somehting around $5M which means they can add roughly $20M at the trade deadline of soon to be UFA salary on their books for this year as they'll only be on the hook for 20% of the player(s) salary. They can get a whole heck of a lot more then Bieksa or Salo with that cushion. That's why I'd rather wait a bit and see what's available. Maybe we can get a game changer later on in the year!

I expect EK to say that the Canucks want one of either Pacioretty, Leblanc, Tinordi, Avtsin or Palushaj back at the very least... If so I'm not interested..

I'd rather try and get McCabe out of Fla for a 4th and/or a lesser prospect..

A lot of teams are also waiting. The longer you wait, the higher the price you have to pay to get the player you wanted. I think it's better to identify which player you need and try to make a trade now.

But very few of those teams have the cap space and play off potential to trade for those marquee names.

We're winning now so why rush it?

And December's a really tough month, so it's not likely to improve. 10 road games, back to back games 4 times, a two week road trip, playing on boxing day and New Years Eve. This will be the real test of the team, until the next one.

agreed, deadline you over pay.

and now, you use that player to go up in the standings, which would help the ch now, not in march

agreed,

but i think mccabe is a bum, old washed up,

that is why figland did not want him, and if they see that, as they are poor at seeing talent,

ie: kessel

The Canucks and Habs are rumored to still be discussion "a big named defenseman."

For a guy that makes fun of Eklund, you sure do seem interested in what he has to say.

Erhoff for a 3rd!

Edit: I'm sure he is referring to Bieksa(75% chance) or Salo(25% chance), handly a "big name".

No way Habs are interested in more than often injured Salo, he is as strong as tissue paper.

Bieksa may fill a need, but I don't think the Habs are in dire need for a Dman right now. We need a top 6 winger with size and skill more.

Which dman on the Canucks would be considered "a big named defenseman"? Edler is a very good dman but I wouldn't consider him a big named dman yet.. I don't watch them enough to know much about their players..

You're Eklund to English translator is off.

Eklund is insanely in love with every team and player, remember, so to him I am sure "big name" just means "on an NHL roster and not entirely horrible" to everyone else.

My good sense told me if I made a thread about this I would have my head chopped off, but .. FYI

Hockey Night in Canada is now sponsoring HockeyBuzz, there is an ad in Eklund's frontpage and he mentions it in his latest blog

So instead of getting Bieksa cheap(3rd or 4th rounder) for depth on defense you just say no to Gillis and hang up?

With Spacek Gill and Hamrlik all 35 or more, it's pretty obvious we'll need the extra depth if we have any plans of a playoff run.

Bieska is an improvement over which of our current d-men, exactly?
