Gotta agree, even if I think Picard and Subban haven't been as bad in their roles as some would have us believe. I don't think he's a "bonafide" 1st pairing guy, but given the RH shot I think:

Markov-Bieksa
Hammer-Subban
Gorges-Gill
(Spacek in the pressbox or out of town, I don't care)

would have been a more solid group to start the season than anything we've deployed since (not just on paper). He'd absolutely be our top RH defender, and would have pushed Subban down the depth chart from the get-go.

JM would have Green playing RW on the 4th line like Carbo with Streit.

The only way I could see that would be with an extension in place, the Habs have too much money committed up front to do that in my opinion.

I know that Boudreau is trying to change the way they are playing, so no more embarrassing losses in the playoffs. Somehow, with Carlson and Alzner in their system, just makes me think Green may be available. I know he has been criticized for poor defensive play, but would he add a dimension to our powerplay. But the cost may be PK?

Sorry, but I'm cracking myself up at your conversation about money up front, extension, and Semin. Certainly sounds like "after hours" in Montreal.

While I am not a huge Bieksa fan, he would bring physicality and a mean streak to our D-unit. I would play him before Picard for sure. Plus, Bieksa, while not a top 2 d-man, can hold down a top 4 role easily enough. He also would've made a good partner for Markov, too bad.

Hamerlik -- Spacek
Gill - Subban
Gorges - Bieksa

Is not bad.

If Washington & Montreal really are talking then I too would want Eric Fehr. I can't imagine what we'd be discussing other than the weather tho.

I know Washington wants a 2nd line centreman - Gomez for Semin? ha. ha. ha.

If we were to add Bieksa I think you'd see Spacek moved back to LH side.

From Bob McKenzie's Twitter:

TSNBobMcKenzie: NJD put Brian Rolston on waivers.

I might be interested if his contract wasn't 5 mil next year also.

What would be the point? Can't see Washington paying an injured guy for 4 months.

Perhaps part of a package.

Maybe PG has no intention of re-signing him and will try to get something for him in a package deal with someone else.

I love how people around here over-rate our talent so much to think that Bieksa would NOT be an upgrade to our defense.

Hilarious.

The only time Markov will have any value is in June. If he makes a good recovery, I can see a team offering us a pick for his rights if we don't intend to keep him.

Nobody will pay his contract for 6 months with him out for surgery.

I agree. IMHO he's an above average NHL defenseman whom we can probably get for about 1/5th his value because nobody has cap room and Vancouver is in a bind.
