Same here.. I don't get why people think AK hasn't done well in the playoffs. I agree that he only had 8 points in 19 playoff games (he also had 25 hits for the duration of the playoffs) this season, but seriously, youtube the highlights of some of the pivotal games in the two series which we won, and AK set up a lot of those big, important goals. I don't understand how people don't get it. Remember the first goal in game 6 against he Pens when Cammy scored, does anyone remember who it was that picked up the Letang turn over and got it to Cammy in first place? That's right AK46 did. Or in game 7 who pressured Kunitz to cause a giveaway which led to Cammalleri scoring the winning goal? Kostitsyn did.

And those aren't the only examples, there were a couple from the Washington series as well. I also agree that he needs to screw his head on tighter, but I'm willing to give him this year without the other brat Kostitsyn around to see what AK46 can do.

Just my opinion, I welcome the trolling.

I actually recently went on youtube and watched the nhlvideo highlights of all the Habs playoff wins and definitely noticed AK46 a lot too.

Good. The Habs will sign a d-man coming off a concussion to fill in for the d-man who goes down without notice. And get rid of the d-man who has been reliable in terms of TOI since he was signed.

If they can find a home for Mike Smith (back the other way? Not with Huet around...), I wouldn't be surprised to see that. Yzerman might see Smith's $2.4M (2.2M cap hit) on the books right now, and decide that perhaps a slightly younger, arguably better, Cup ring-wearing Niemi would be a good use of the extra $350K (if his salary=cap hit).

With Ellis there, they have the luxury of going after/taking a chance on whomever they want to bridge the gap between the veteran (Ellis) and the young guy (Tokarski). Smith has put in some good time in T.Bay, but I couldn't see them being too attached to him at this point (fairly disappointing last year).

I'm constantly amazed how much AK does not get respect here for is hits. Must players mentionned by posters to replace him are less physical or the same.

If you want to blame AK for not being consistent, fine, I agree, but he is a power forward and better than most people want to admit. It took 161 hits last year in the NHL to be top 30 for forwards, and if you look at the list, most are 3rd and 4th liners. So why do we need to replace AK? He would be top 10 in the league for hits by forwards who plays on a team's top 6. This guy gets no love at all, yet he is a rare breed in this league???

Personally I've never liked AK. I've criticized the pick since the early days. But, I never ever claimed he wasn't physical. My beef with him is that he has no hockey sense. I.E sure he hits a lot but when have you seen him get in there and hit at the right time to create turnovers. I'm beein over-simplistic here but you get the idea. In a nutshell, me not liking his game has nothing to do with effort, consitency or physical play, it has to do with decision making on the ice and general involvement. Ok you're shy, get over it you have enough talent to match Ovechkin's production, type-thing. That's a figure of speech I don't mean to imply he could actually match OV's production but I do think AK has the tools to score 40+. He just doesn,t have what it takes between the ears. I liked it the few times I've seen him get angry. I want to see more of that attitude from him personally. In his defense that concussion a few years back from the hit (can't remember the player's name but played for FLA) might have taken a bit of that out of him.

Canadiens trying to get Steve Bernier in a Trade?

Bernier was already traded once this offseason...he was moved at the draft to Florida for Keith Ballard.

The concern with Bernier...

At 20 and 21...101 GP 29-29-58

At 22-24...216 GP 42-44-86

He is very inconsistant both on offense as well as his physical game.

Again, it would have to be for a "B" prospect or a 3rd or 4th rounder given his cap hit and recent production.

Maybe Bernier is one of those late-blooming power-forwards à la John Leclair or Todd Bertuzzi?

this depends on whether a prospect or a roster player and his cap hit is sent to FLA in a trade for Bernier...

e.g. sending Hamrlik and his ~$5.5m hit and a prospect as enticement (e.g. Maxwell) for Bernier would work nicely for both teams cap-wise (FLA is $9.5m under cap w/ all players signed).

It would be nice to have Hamrlik's cap room but we would weaken ourselves considerably on defense.

Yes but with a longer term benefit: In a year where the Habs are already setting up to give several younger players regular roles in the lineup (i.e. Price, Eller, Pacioretty, Pyatt, et.al.) why not try to move Hamrlik (due to the $5.5m hit) and give a regular role to O'Byrne, Weber, or Carle?

Normally that wouldn't be an issue but with Markov returning from major surgery, we can't risk not having Hamrlik if he missed a month or more. Without Hamrlik the 1st half this past year, we miss the playoffs points because we'd have been 10-15 out by the time Markov returned.

A lot conveniently overlook that because of the 5.5 mil cap hit.

You really didn't want to put Latendresse in there right?

Bernier in MTL is wishful thinking from Florida IMHO.

Surprise you haven't get flamed!

I agree with you. At the beginning (let say against the Caps) he was bad and really seems to don't care, but when he decided to play, he was a factor even if he didn't socre. He threw big hits and went in the corners to take the puck.
