I'd say there is a better than average chance he clears waivers

He's okay in a defensive minded system but is no longer able to keep up with Gordon's up-tempo, fast paced skating system.

I have a soft spot for the Witts of this world, but the guy is too slow to be useful imo.

He'll go unclaimed. Wonder if they plan on buying him out?

Gordon's system is not the problem. Witt was simply incapable of keeping up in the defensive zone. He has no foot speed left what so ever. People are flying around him at will and in the dzone he can't go from the corner to the front of the net in time. Its not the system, Witt has just lost it.

I doubt he gets another NHL job. Probably the retirement for Witt.

Owed $2.5M this coming season on a one-way deal, I don't think so. He may ply his trade over his final season in the minors, but he'll collect his paycheck. This isn't a guy who has banked tens and tens of millions over his career.

What could be more likely is a buyout, and then retirement after that.

So if he clears, does that precipitate Witt+ for Souray+

like

Witt and Comeau for Souray and Cogliano

or something like that.

Allthough I might get a lot of beating for it:

Maybe he (and maybe something else) gets traded for Souray afterwards?

It's three days after Moulson's arbitration date so I assume this is for the purpose of a buy-out?

Unconditional Waivers means buy-out. Unless Columbus claims him.

Every time someone proposes a new, desperate machination to deal Souray, it's as funny as the first time. No one wants him.

Witt's $2.5, bought out at 2/3 and spread over two seasons, seems the likely course.

Unconditional waivers is the first step to a buyout as far as I know. Once that happens he will retire because I doubt anyone will offer him a job.

That was subsequently addressed in this thread. Or in that very post, for that matter.

He wasn't being counted anyway, because most had him plugged in the minors. They're still ~$4M under.
