You made like three different post each with a different variation of a statement.

You didn't agree with me about him retiring, but now I guess you are? I don't really know anymore.

Seems like an automatic reaction without thinking.
Many people stated that they would like him on re-entry waivers.

If he gets traded for Witt (taking his buy-out amount), it indeed isn't the same salary than on re-entry, but at least a discount.

PS: I hate people just automatically spoiling something down or calling it ridiculos / funny / etc. without giving any reason why.

Meh, they should easily be able to add that much with all the teams that are over the cap right now.

They are going to lace Weight's contract with incentives and bonuses to get them over the cap floor.

Again?

Hasn't he been waived before? Seems like the Isles are pretty desperate to get rid of him. Makes me wonder if Charles Wang and/or Garth Snow were behind the wheel of that car that hit him last December.

They can't buy him out because the time has passed. However, if the Isles have arbitration hearings they get an extension. I don't think they do.

EDIT: JUST CHECKED AND NOPE THEY DON"T HAVE ANY ARBITRATION HEARINGS

I used to really like Whitt and his game but he just doesn't fit into the post lockout NHL.

Less about the system than the talent pool.

They had 1 a few days ago (Moulson) and I could be wrong but the extension a little past when they accept the arbitration award.

Witt's buyout would add $1,333,333 to the cap. The rest may be given to Weight in performance bonuses.

Can the Islanders put him on call up waivers? I figure at 1.25M(1.5M caphit) somebody might take a chance

The buyout cost puts them 1.333 M closer because no one (well, mainly capgeek, the only one to trust) was counting Witt's 3 M as part of their cap total.

A method for the Isles to reach the salary cap floor by buying out Witt.

This was a move to save Wang money paid to Witt, and to get a bit higher to cap floor win-win for Wanger

Moulson's signing was not the result of arbitration, so that rule doesn't apply. The 2nd buy out period only applies if a player goes to arbitration and is awarded a contract.

This is a bit suspicious though, and the Souray angle makes some sense. Edmonton still has Deslauries slated for arbitration. There is no pressure to sign him before a hearing.

The Isles waive Witt now, in one final attempt to dump his salary.

If he clears and is traded to a team with a buy-out window available, say Edmonton, he can then be bought out without hesitation.

Souray, when healthy (rare I know) is a good player. His 5.4M cap hit vs. 4.5M salary are mildly attractive, especially if you are stuck with 3M worth of dead-weight like Witt.

That's interesting.

Witt has a 2.5 million salary for one more year.
So if you trade him for Souray, you would actually get him for 3.25 per year (with a 5.4 millions cap hit).

Just because Souray cleared waivers this doesn't have to mean that nobody wants, but rather that nobody wants him with his salary (see Vandermeer). Besides it was often said, that other teams want to dump their bad contracts for him.
This would be the case with Witt, besides it would be a similar deal that Tambellini made with PHX.

If the isles are just gonna buy him out, why not trade him to the Rangers for Brashear, then buy out Brashear?

Buyout Witt:

2010 cap hit 1.333 mil
Total salary to be paid 1.667 mill

Buyout Brashear:

2010 cap hit 1.4 mil
Total salary to be paid $866,667

Slightly more cap hit for just over half the money. Yeah, I know they don't want to help a division rival, but this helps them as well. In either case, we're not talking about a ton of money.

Does this make it harder for the Isles to reach the cap floor?

3.25M for Souray is not abysmal.

He's had 2 injury rittled seasons and 2 high end healthy seasons over the past 4 years.

His two healthy years he had 26 and 23 goals.

I doubt he gets another NHL job. Probably the retirement for Witt.
Agree entirely. This idea that it's "Gordon's system" implies that non-Gordon systems promote slow paced NHL hockey that do not accentuate quick transition in the neutral and defensive zone and mobile dmen. That's mirthful.

Easier, the buyout would go against the cap over the next two years:

BRENDAN WITT BUYOUT FROM CAPGEEK.COM
2010-2011: $1,333,333
2011-2012: $833,333

And he is not pencilled into the rosters, as people assumed he would not be on the roster.

So with the buyout the Isles cap payroll is ~$40,319,900

Seriously. Was that necessary?

It's stupid posts like yours that catch people's ire. But then again, that's what attention getters do...... need a little bit of soft stroking and patting do we?
