BTW...

'98-'99 Playoffs: 0.930SV%, 1.67GAA

How the **** did he not win the Conn Smythe? Was Nieuwendyk really more instrumental than that?

Without question.

He's certainly the 4th best goalie of his era, and the other three (Roy, Hasek and Brodeur) are all top 10 goalies of all-time.

This. He's for sure the next best goalie after them and they are arguably the top 3 goalies of all time.

First ballot lock depends on other factors, but he's a lock.

First ballot, they've probably already done up his plaque. His career was amazing and there's no character issues, after all he's a fun-loving philanthropic billionaire. Everybody loves Eddie.

2 Vezinas, back-to-back amazing finals runs, Stanley Cup champ, always seemed to be hung over, once ate a hotdog on the bench...Eddie was pretty much the complete package.

And outplayed Roy and Hasek on the way to to the cup.

Easily a 1st ballot guy. If the Wings listen to their players and signed Belfour instead of Joseph they might have another cup or two on their mantle.

And IMO, the gap between those 3 and Belfour is less than the gap between Belfour and #5.

Yeah. The better question would be whether he goes first ballot or not. Basically if the committee wants to punish his bad behavior by making him wait a few years.

I was more referring to his competition. I mean, as good as a player was, if he's stuck in the same year than (hypothetic case) Lemieux, Bourque, Orr and Gretzky, he's not getting in.

Eh, his career is too good to be put on the backburner by voters just because he was a goofball. I don't think he was ever a bad enough guy.

I also think it's hard to imagine a ballot strong enough where he'd be the odd one out. But I haven't thought about it much. Guys of his caliber will be spread out enough.

MXD is right. He probably wouldn't have gotten in ahead of, for example the Messier, Stevens, MacInnis, Francis* class. But classes that strong are a rarity.

*I would induct Belfour over Francis without second thought, but the HOF committee loves their career numbers, so I highly doubt they'd induct him over Ron. Not saying that Ron shouldn't be in the HOF btw.

The only thing I can think of that could hold him out is off-ice things but Dino got in so that shouldnt matter.

Same way Brodeur & Hasek didn't. The Stars were a defensive lock-down team. Like Broduer with the Devils & Hasek with the Wings (and Osgood with the Wings) he didn't have to do a whole lot to record those numbers.

He's a sure thing for the Hall.

He faced 5 shots less than Conn Smythe winning Roy in 2001 and 33 shots more than Cam Ward.

In retrospect to those other goalies you named. He faced 80 more shots than Brodeur in '00, 55 more than Hasek in '02 and 29 more than Osgood in '98.

I guessed this at the start, but it looks like we all agree (for once).
