It's a really good deal but it wasn't a steal. He was pretty dissapointing last year and hasn't really done anything to deserve a big raise. He has talent but he has to work hard and not turn into another Bernier.

I don't see why anyone would think he can get $4.5 million

I'm excited to see him playing for a big contract next year. Very classy move by seto knowing that he doesn't deserve more money for his performance and wants to prove he is worth it

I don't know how you get the "knowing he doesn't deserve more money" from. Comps were higher I believe. Last I read 2.2mil? I agree it's a class move, but for different reasons. He's giving the team a CAP break this year when they need it for a chance at a bigger payday next year. Probably based on a verbal with DW, much like Wallin this year.

versteeg gets 3mil, there is no way seto should get less than versteeg.

Wow, that is surprisingly cheap. I'm guessing this means as long as he does well he'll get a nice payday next season. Still, nice to have this taken care of!

Pollak compares this contract to the "little" ones Pavelski and Clowe got after their ELCs and prior to their current/larger deals they are currently on.

The more these born and bred sharks are taking huge discounts for our team, the more I hate mercenary Wallin and the contract that he got. All I can think about is 1. WOW SETO FOR 1.8!!! and 2. OMG HES getting 700k LESS than WALLIN.

If one of the top-6 F is moved for a top-4 Dman, the odds that is going to be Ryane Clowe just went up dramatically. Gooch at $1.8M is a bargain and it is a very reasonable contract considering the Sharks' cap situation.

The extra cap room gives the Sharks some extra wiggle room to address the bottom-6, or bring in another top-6 F if one is moved for a Dman.

Yep - but like PF has mentioned, we could very well just deal some combo of Huskins/Murray/Mitchell for Souray and keep our top 6 in tact.

But, if we want 2 top 4 dmen, then Clowe is likely the one to go

This is good. I can definitely smell a trade at the deadline. You take away Mitchell's contract and you have near $4mil in cap space.

i agree 2.2 mill is about what i would say he deserves. good comparisons stat wise would be wheeler, ladd, callahan and those guys all make around 2.2 and all had really similar point totals. so your right he makes less than he should but its like .4 less. when i said "knowing he doesnt deserve more money" i meant " knowing he doesnt deserve much more money".

Just wait till his next contract... most likely wallinesque.... look accept dick-fifty now, and get PAID later.

Not that I'm unhappy with this contract though

How is there virtually no chance JT signs a new contract with us?

DH - I like the roster, however.....

Due to wife/family proximity, waiver status, need for leadership, I think Leach is more likely to be in Worcester than SJ, with a "kid" who is still waiver exempt riding the "Worcester Shuttle" as a 7th guy. Perhaps Joslin or Moore.

Second, I can see the Sharks going lean/mean with only 12 forwards most of the season with someone, perhaps like McLaren or McCarthy, on the Worcester Shuttle.

You could also take away Murray or Huskins contract as well couldn't you? Unless Todd McLellan plans on running 7 defensemen again with Leach in Worcester.

You add Huskins' salary and you have just enough to get Souray.
