White is defensively responsible and is a guy who can play 4th line, sure.

Contracts and other centers aside... Who would you rather have centering the 3rd line with the other playing the 4th? - Drury or White?

He has a 1-way contract and he isn't going to get better by playing more games in Hartford. If the Rangers have the money to keep him as the 13th forward I think they will do so. Injuries will happen and White can play anywhere.

I am ok with this trade. Worst comes to worst we bury him in the minors and get rid of him after this year. I'd still rather have White over Brashear.

I am still hoping Sather gets a number one center, and maybe we can put out a respectable team then.

Drury 3rd, White 4th.

Drury is a much better player.

I kinda wouldn't mind if they played on the same line. A line of Drury-White-Callahan would have some serious elbow grease.

rangers get a solid player here for very cheap as far as trade value...

Dubinsky Prospal Gaborik
Frolov Anisimov Christensen
Drury White Callahan
Boogaard Avery Prust

the new Voros: Brian Boyle

You just decide to put people wherever you want I guess?

Prust, Drury, Avery, Christensen and Dubinsky are all out of position. Granted, Dubinsky and Drury have played LW in the past. However, Avery isn't a center, Prust plays LW, and Christensen is a center.

You can't just stick people anywhere to smash everyone into the lineup. This isn't NHL 10.

Prust played RW for us last year, with Shelley on the left and Anisimov in the middle.

avery played center before and had taken faceoffs before. u know he was a center when he was on the wings and kings. christensen played wing for the pens. it gives the rangers depth, let me guess u want gaborik frolov on the same line. lets have a one line team

I like the trade. It's more what we gave up then what we got. Sather pulled a good one here.

It's going to be a real grind in training camp to create a spot for some people on the team, should prove to add hunger to the four lines we roll this year.

To me, that's the key to this trade, and it's the main reason this trade is a good one for us. Who knows who will under/overperform this year, and having White, a guy who can play all situations and who is good enough both offensively and defensively that he could fit into a top 6 or bottom 6 role, allows us flexibility.

Let's say some young forward plays their way onto the team out of camp in a top 6 role, but one of our bottom 6 guys underperforms. Slap White down on the 3rd of 4th line. When the tables turn and the kid tires out, move White up to the top 6. Versatility will be particularly important this season, given the many question marks in our lineup.

White is low risk. If he can play because of injuries, he's LTIR. If he can't play anymore, it's Hartford.

anyway, i was slammed for wanting us to sign him for an incentive laden 1 yr deal.

i was told:

hes old
broken down
bad shoulder
injury prone
we need to get younger
blocking young guys
no future
stop gap
blah blah blah

now we get todd freekin white who happens to be all of those things above (just with a ton LESS natural offensive ability compared with demitra) and everyone is drooling over white.

let the season start already for gods sake.

So you think a signing should be compared to a trade where we salary dumped an unmovable contract? Or are you not thinking about it this way? Because don't forget there are big differences and the fact that we dumped Brashear and can dump White is a significant difference between the move you wanted and what just happenned.

Dont think Whites injuries are bad enough to keep him LTI. I think hell be back at camp and be fine. But what do the Rangers do with him? Well find out in about 2 months i guess.

I sort of feel like they are/will attempt to have him be Jagr lite...someone with a big body who can draw players to him while still controlling the puck down low with protection, creating space for Gaborik.

Have you already had a conversation with the leadership of the Rangers?

Ė Yes, I communicated with them before signing the contract. It was very important for me to understand in what capacity they would count on me. I heard that on the Rangers Iíll receive a lot of playing time, will regularly be on the ice during the power play. Most likely, Iíll play on a line with the leader of the team, Gaborik. In New York they want me to create a high-powered offensive unit with Gaborik.
The word "unit" can be considered a line or just the offensive unit(as in the teams offense).

Either way I am sure they will play together at some point.

Also, there is no way in hell some of those players make the team over MZA. I'd stick my head out and say MZA is better than most players on the team.

Indeed. He is supposedly a very good offensive player and for a team that's desperate for offense, I don't understand how he doesn't make the team unless he has a very disappointing camp.

To me it's quite obvious that we have not the skill set to seperate the two players Fro and Gab to skate and generate offense on their own, or at least I should say that Fro cannot do that. Gab did that last year by scoring 40+ goals without legitimate 1st line linemates. Fro does not add into that equation of being able to pull off that type of skill set. Fro needs to play with Gab in order to be effective.
