I like it. Brashear was the biggest waste of space we've signed in a long time.

Another great deal for Sather. We get a potential 40 point player for two players who would not have seen the NHL all year.

Not bad. I'm guessing white is Hartford bound then.

How long did Rissmiller have left? Freed up a contract and didn't take on much more salary.

White NYR or Hartford bound?

No no, I am fine with players from the NCAA, of course, I just remember last year when the signing first broke and during pre-season a lot (notice I said "a lot" not everyone) around here was drooling over Gilroy because of what he showed...then a lot of people soured on him.

I just see a lot of people really hyping up McDonagh (who may very well be a better player, I personally don't know) but all of this hype before he has even played a single pro level game...I am just taking it cautiously at this point.

Edit: This still is off topic of "I am happy it is not Rozi, as without him/another veteran NHL Dman the defensive core of NYR would be pretty terrible."

Rissmiller was never going to see time with the Rangers again, neither was Brashear. We actually added almost $1MM to our cap in this deal when the regular season rolls around.

Dumping Brashear is nice, but I don't see a place for White.

I think Rissmiller and Voros had the same contract $3m/3y that were both expiring after the 10/11 season.

Both Rissmiller and Brashear have 1 year left on their deals. White has 1 year left as well.

Rissmiller: $1 mil cap hit, $1 mil salary
Brashear: $1.4 mil cap hit ($1.3 mil if playing in AHL), $1.3 mil salary

White: $2.375 mil cap hit, $2.6 mil salary

Atlanta saves $300k and gets closer to the cap floor with Brashear's cap hit, though I doubt he will ever play for them.

White is going to get waived and sent to Hartford.

Seeing as how Pissmiller was never going to count against our cap, this move would have actually increased our cap hit by a million.

The ONLY reason to make this deal is to shed Brashear. In order to do that, you HAVE to waive White.

Todd White will not be on the opening night roster and may never wear a Rangers jersey during the regular season.

Very good deal if he's waived and sent packing. Otherwise, we increase the cap hit.

I was referring to the summer cap. White 2.375 mil. Brashear + Rissmiller 2.4 mil.

White will probably be Hartford bound, which means we'll have a extra 1.4 mil in cap space for the regular season.

if he plays cool and if he doesnt whatever. Brashear is off the cap and Rissmiller was a bigger waste of space. That and Voros gone. Fantastic

I do think White will come to camp with a shot at playing time though. Pretty sure Boyle has a two way deal no?

It's just depth. We go through this every offseason..teams sign a bunch of guys to provide depth and competition in camp (because they don't know if young players will be ready to step up...you don't want to throw in Stepan or Grachev or MZA if they're not ready, even if you really want to go with youth).

Not everyone the Rangers sign now is going to play for them this year...
Except that they were, as just proven by signing Frolov, an upgrade to Prospal, and trading for White, an upgrade to Christensen. And, it happened last year when Prospal became available. And, it's likely those type of players are available throughout the year. So, you've committed $3 million in cap space to redundant pieces. There was no good reason, in my mind, to commit cap space to two players that could be available at any time during the year.

so basically, we have shed Brashear's cap hit???? as long as White is waived and sent down to The Wolf pack?

If that's the case, that's another 1.4 million in cap space to sign Staal.

I don't understand how you can say all that with such confidence. White is one season removed from a 73 point season... We swapped two guys who wouldn't suit up for the Rangers let alone the Wolf Pack for a POTENTIAL center for Gabby.

The deal was a wash in terms of the summer cap (Brash + Riss = 2.4 against summer cap, White = 2.35). And we can fit White under the cap when the season starts fairly easily IF we waive Redden OR make another trade..

This is an absolutely amazing deal.

This means that either White will never play for the Rangers, or if he does, they either don't think MZA is ready, or if they do, one of the big 3 overpaid guys is no doubt gone.

Good trade for both teams. Not sure why Atlanta wants Rissmiller, but he is borderline NHL talent, so maybe they need a body.

Seems to me that if we waive Redden, we have plenty of cap space. If we don't, we have to strip the team to meet the cap. Therefore, I think they plan to put Redden in the minors, all our problems solved.

Oh... we do have a glutton of centers. I guess competition, competition for the spots!

I was utterly shocked to find this trade this morning.

Few things;

This increases the chance that Christensen will not be a factor this year

White is an inconstant, up and down mother****er. But his upside is solid.

We now have 11 "top 9" players if you include MZA

White may be sent down with Redden if he sucks, because it is difficult to fit him and Staal under the cap.

I don't fully understand this trade. I wonder if it may work out against us, because we always know how to screw things up.

The risk is very low. If he sucks he's AHL bound, and if worst comes to worst, it's only a 1-year deal. No biggy.

more than anything...I'm glad to see Brashear & his over 35 contract off our books. It was just dead space. And to be rid of Pissmiller all-together is the cherry on top.
