The Rich Pilon Appreciation Thread

One of the posters in the Witt Waived thread compared Witt to Rich Pilon. I thought that since it's still a long way until this season starts - this would be a nice time reflect on Rich Pilon stories and share favorite moments.

my favorite is the flying leap he took at Dale Hunter after the Turgeon hit.

That story in fishsticks about an unamed player banging on the glass when his girlfriend confronted his wife was about Pilon, wasn't it?

I mentioned him. In those days, after the glory of the 80's, i loved this guy. he was like a fire hydrant- immovable. ask kevin stevens (a pretty good player in his heyday) who tried to hit him and instead broke his face. he also took on ANYONE. didn't matter how short rich was, he'd fight the biggest (to wit: Probert). universally respected.

Pilon was as tough as they come...then hed speak & you'd just think "seriously???". Always was a fan of rich. Never got the big hype but solid little dude back there.

On my list of "top 100 things I'd like to change about the past" is the fact that Pilon only grazed Hunter.

I swear that if he connected w/that Superfly Snuka flying knee, Hunter would have been as badly injured as Turgeon, if not more. If only.

Pilon was actually not a small guy. He was 6'1", 210 pounds...built alot like Dave Langevin, who was 6'2", 215 pounds. Both guys loved to hit and would take on all comers.

Can someone provide a link to this story? That just sounds too awesome.

Ranger fan here to share my love for Rich Pilon. No defenseman will ever do half as much good as Rich Pilon did for the New York Rangers. I can only hope that Marc Staal will develop into even a frament of what Rich Pilon was.

without trying to start a fight with the previous poster, pilon going to the rangers was one of the blackest days for me as an islanders fan.

Remember Pilon swinging his stick violently at Lemieux. That was nasty.

Kevin Stevens was the aggressor in that incident. Rickie just sidestepped the hit. But I loved how Pilon harrassed Lemieux. Classic.

and that was a clean shoulder to shoulder hit. at first it looked lt looked like pilon took the worst of it and flew further - until stevens landed face first on the ice.

For some reason, I always remember Pilon scoring a PPG ().....either on Pitt or St. Louis.

thank you very little, i'll take credit for mentioning this psycho of a d man. Unfortunately he was always hurt but man was he tough.......remember him laying out Kevin Stevens in the 93 playoff run? Stevens landed face first on the Ice. It was like two battering rams going at it. We could use a guy like Pilon

What year was Pilon on the power play? That must've been a bad year, considering Pilon once went over 200 games between goals.

8 goals in 631 games, he was no jeff tambellini!

zero on the PP
zero SH

only made the playoffs ONE YEAR, in 1992-93. The last time anyone in that uniform saw more than one round of playoffs.
