Well, except the part about Niemi potentially ending up desperate. I don't see any other teams with an opening either. Teams might *make* an opening for Niemi. But since the openings aren't there atm, it automatically means fighting for a spot somewhere. He won the fight in Chicago. But now he has just put himself back into a fight again. Dumb move by Niemi. Maybe he'll get some kind of lucky break somewhere. But also maybe not. The fight in Montreal probably wouldn't be any great deal more daunting than most other situations he might enter into. Price lost his fight last year. It's not a slam dunk that Niemi would be a backup. But still a moot point, since obviously the Habs aren't looking that way.

Anyway, I'd rather have Turco at $1.3M than Auld at $1M.
There are quite a number of goalies I would have preferred at up to $1.5M over Alex Auld. But the only way I could justify Gauthier's reasoning in this hiring is by his decision to grant Price the #1 spot. There is no way Auld could supplant Price and take over. So we live and die with Price. Maybe until Desjardins can make a run at it.

It's not just a rumor. It sounds like a major brain fart to me

Who said we couldn't have a goalie controversy without Halak?

I'd rather Niemi than Auld that's for sure. I really don't like Auld. Maybe he'll change that opinion let's hope.

Price is on my do not trade list.

But, you know that Bob Gainey's clone, Pierre Gauthier will, like Gainey himself, hand the starting job to Price and play him no matter how poorly his game performances!

At the NHL level, Carey has never had to earn anything..........why should he have to start earning anything now?

He will earn money now... at least that is what he want since the negociations take so long....

You sir like to watch the stanley cup, but you obviously didn't watch any ****ing game of the final.

If he was that good, even for a freaking 1.3million more in the cap, why didn't they keep that so called stanley cup ring winner over a well known playoff choker for the past 10 years?

Price was way way way more important for his cup win than Niemi. Price was the playoff MVP (and the youngest ever to boot). Was Niemi ever remotely considered a candidate for the Conn Smythe?

I would offer Niemi $1.5m for a 1 yr deal and waive Auld. Then I'd offer Price the same $1.5m.

Niemi is going to have a hard time finding a team to pay him $2m this late in the off season imo.

Yeah, sign and waive! The new killer strategy.

Yeah then we should waive Gomez and sign Kovalchuk, we have too many centers anyway!

If the Habs give Price more than $2 million a season, management needs their heads examined.

$2 million is more than fair for Price based on the fact he has never EARNED the #1 job, he was given the job and already lost it once to Halak. If he had put up the numbers Halak put up last year and carried the team like Halak did, I'd gladly give Price $2 million or more, but since he struggled so much....you can't throw a bunch of money at him as if he earned it cuz he didn't!!!!

You cannot even remotely compare an AHL Calder Cup win to an NHL Stanley Cup win!!! Lots of players have great success in the AHL and never even make it to the NHL.

Funny. That's exactly what the Stanley Cup champions just did this morning.

(but no I don't want PG to do the same with Price...)

I heard about this before,so if it does happen, Spector doesn't get any credit.

Niemi is overrated as **** and isn't that good.

Even when he's not at his tops, Price > Niemi, plus Price won't get 2.75, so that would be horrible.

I wouldnt dump price in favour of niemi by any means, but he would have been a perfect goalie to have around to push price. Auld wont do that.

Considering he's 4 years older than Price, yet has similar stats while playing on a better team.. Yes I think Price is the better goalie
