I wonder what Laviolette is thinking??

I think Lavi runs a tight ship, and we'll see what happens through training camp...chumps like the Shelley and O'Donnell will have their work cut out for them.

It would have been interesting to see Lavi's reaction to these off season signings!! And as long as he's the coach, he'll decide the ice time for these guys.

I would not be surprised at all to see some *more* cap space available towards October/November!

I believe everyone has felt Lavi this offseason. I believe I read he had them on a strict diet. I'm not sure where I read and/or heard this. I can't wait for camp, I'm thinking he's going to get them in shape.

O'Donnell isn't a chump.

Agreed about O'Donnell. Dude logged respectable minutes and a good +/- on the Ducks. I'd say he was one of the few moves Homer made that filled a need a reasonable price.

Neither is Shelley. They are both great team players and well prepared vets. I don't know much about Walker, but if he stays around, he'll be more of the same.

Homer, despite his total incompetence when it concerns goaltending, is building a team that will be fast, tenacious and ready for war come playoff time.

Lavi still has a pretty great team on paper to work with, and with his coaching and work ethic he will most likely get the most these guys have to offer.

I'm sure Holmgren consulted with Lappy with the moves he made. Shelley will get icetime and will probably play all 82 games if healthy. Lavi likes a tough team and he will make this work.

I'm picturing Holmgren as the Pointy-Haired Boss from Dilbert and Laviolette as Alice. "Must control fist of death!"

Look at our forwards right now:

Zherdev-Richards-Giroux
Hartnell-Briere-Leino
JVR-Carter-Carcillo
Lappy-Betts-Powe
Shelley

Do you see any room for Cote? Cote is gone with the roster as it is.

Shelley was given a contract just this off-season and he's a better player and fighter then Cote.

It's almost a guarantee that Cote doesn't see any ice-time this season.

His post saying no ****ing way he meant shelly won't be getting ice time and Cote will have an MMA partner because neither will get ice time so they can practice fighting it was a joke.

Yeah, I think I misread it.

I thought he was saying Cote would make the roster before Shelley because Cote trains with an MMA fighter (last I heard). My mistake.

Shelley is a pretty good upgrade over Cote as the extra man though so he isn't a bad addition actually.

He will. As Betts is likely to miss the few first games our 4th will be Shelley-Powe-Lappy. During that time Shelley will impress plenty of people, including Lavi and once Betts' back.. it'll be Powe and Shelley swapping in the 4th line left wing spot.

Lol, are you kidding? why in the hell would he consult with Lappy? Well if shelley is scratched to start the season, that will clearly tell me that Shooter and the coach are not on the same page and the coach isnt happy.

I think he meant Lappiolette.

I'm sure Lavi will find a way to make it all fit together, but I'm sure he thinks another goalie would have been nice...

i think kalinski has a really good chance to swipe that spot and push powe back to wing. hes a very good skater and brings much needed size. shelly i think needs to make an impression in camp or his spot could be in danger. if kalinski , maroon or testuide impress i think they start looking at him under a whole new light. cotes a phantom i think thats for sure but whoever makes the roster is gonna do so on thier play.

I do think Lavi is more of a fan of Leighton than some of us here, but I have to believe he would rather have had Leighton and someone else rather than Leighton and Boosh.

Lavi is probably thinking the same thing most of us are - please Paul, just get a ****ing goalie.

The Flyers were in a perfect spot to grab one - lots of solid (not stars, but solid) FA goalies, cap space to get one, and a limited number of teams to bid against.

Lavi is probably trying to draw up lines so that there are 3 defensemen on the ice at all times.....

****.

I don't buy it. It's hard for me to imagine Lavi not having some influence on the decision to bring back Leighton. People want to treat Homer as the anti-christ and Lavi as our savior, but this was probably a decision that both were on board with.
