What if Philly signs Niemi?

What would you guys think if the Flyers sign Antti Niemi? This may bode well for your team with Holmgren out-waiting the market and picking up the most recent cup winning goalie. I notice you have about 300k in cap space and Niemi could probably be had somewhere in the mid 2s, so what are you thoughts? I personally would think it very ironic but very awesome as I've always had a soft spot for the Flyers.

I'd be pissed. I think he's a lousy goalie. Before you flame me, I think Leighton is a lousy goalie too.

Id call for Homer's head, and I think we should all do the same.

Have a 'Fire Homer' rally, much like Rags fans did with Slats.

Sign a Cup winning goalie? Surely you jest. We can't have that in Philly.

He didnt win the cup.

I mean technically he did, but he played like ****.

The rest of the team won it for him.

Or you can make the case that Leighton won it for him.

Oh I absolutely agree he wasn't any good in the Final, but he was good enough to steal game 2 and be on the winning side.

I'd much rather have someone who performed decently in his first season in the NHL which includes a Stanley Cup over someone who has had a career filled with failure and had a fluke run in a small sampling of games.

But unfortunately the day the Flyers get a goalie with any sort of success is the day pigs fly. Holmgren would much rather go with the worst goaltending tandem in the league than to spend an extra few K on a goalie.

The Flyers aren't going to have a better opportunity to win than they will this upcoming season and he's throwing it down the drain on 2 bums. Give me the guy that has had won the damned thing any day over the scrub we call a starter.

Sign him. If Leighton and Boucher can lead us to the Finals, I cant imagine what it would be like if we had Niemi playing behind our defense.

Think Niemi could have come in mid-game and shutout the bruins, and then rallied 3 more wins for the best comeback I've ever seen?

I guess I will retract my statement. If the money is right, he'd be a good signing. 2.75 though, what a joke to ask for that

As CSN reports...
The Flyers have three goalie prospects – Sergei Bobrovsky, Joacim Eriksson and Adam Morrison – one of whom is expected to emerge as their next No. 1 within two years. If the Flyers sign a young goalie like Niemi, where does it leave their own prospects?

Nuff said, however if we're floundering around the .500 mark at the half-way point of the season and Its once again become a game of injured musical chair goaltenders, then I would consider a move for someone .

Well, here you go. At the very least Niemi proved he was better than Leighton. You need your whole team to win as it is, but Niemi proved he could get the job done, and also was spectacular when he had to be. When the chips were down and both teams were all-in, Niemi found a way to make the saves, Leighton could not. It's a very fine line, but a line none the less. No one player can win it by themselves, but we as Flyers fans always cried and whined and this and that and the other thing for a goalie who could win the games we needed to win, and make the saves he had to make and "when are we ever going to get a proven goaltender."

Here you go, he's available. He's only going to be 27. And you don't even need to trade for him.

Stanley Cup winning goalies don't fall into your lap like this. Fact of the matter is Niemi got the job done. He fits the resume for what Flyers fans have been looking for the last 20 years.

Wait, I thought the Flyers don't play for 2 years, they play for now.

That's a decision to be made in 2 years. Eriksson won't be here until at least next year. Morrison is still in juniors and hasn't even started the process, and Bobrovsky while certainly a a wild card. That's simply irrational to hang your hat on.

He is no better than ML. Dude if he was all that do you think for a second they let him walk? Two bums did OK now didn't they. We made history. Yeah everyone remembers the cup winner. But guess what everyone will remember the Boston series. I love guys like you who say it was a fluke or the other team had injuries or the other team played bad BLAH BLAH BLAH.Instead of *****ing, how about getting behind our team and rooting them on. Negadelphia
PS Ain't hockey great!

If he was all that and a bag of chips, then why dump his ass to FA and take a relic like turco (comparatively speaking)

If we had Niemi, we wouldn't have been in that position to begin with.

I'll take pretty much anybody but Leighton as our starter at this point. It is ****ing embarrassing that Holmgren probably won't even consider it.
