if Niemi signs for Halak type money with someone I am not going to complain. If however he signs with a team in Leighton's price range I will have a problem.
-First, people say that we can fit Turco under the cap at 2 mil if we wanted just by waiving Cote and Boosh.
-Niemi, a better bet then Turco, comes along who will likely be available for just as much as Turco eventually and only about .75 mil more right now. And somehow that's too much for him but not Turco?
You can rationalize it all you want, but them not going after Niemi is just sheer idiocy and it just proves the fact that they're somehow fine with our goaltending situation.

Exactly, at least it clears what Holmgren have in his head. He wants Leighton-Boucher, cuz i just can't see Homer go after Theodore.

Except that article says that they're not even going after him.
If they went after him and couldn't sign him because of the price-tag then that's fine, but to not even try to grab him? That's just brutal.

Niemi is not any more of a sure bet than Turco, at least in the short term, and it appears that the organization would only want to plug the hole for the short term and hope the prospects pan out beyond that.
Not really concerned that Leighton is going to be the guy, just worried about the backup plan. They went cheap on the bargain rack, they should have bought some insurance to go along with Leighton but they were too invested on getting 9 d-men to play 6 spots.

It doesn't really matter. Most people would say that he's better then Turco or at least just as good:
