09/10 Sharkie Awards: The Ballot (VOTING IS NOW CLOSED. THANKS EVERYONE!)

Finally, after a long, long, long wait (including an accidental 1 year hiatus) the Sharks Board Time-Wasting Committee (SharksTWC for short) is pleased to announce that the Sharkie awards are back to recognize the best of the HF Sharks community. We've done some tweaking to the awards and added a new batch of awards focused on the Sharks themselves as well. So here's the deal:

THE DEADLINE TO VOTE IS AUGUST 13 @ 9PM PACIFIC
VOTE 1 OF 2 WAYS:

1) Send an e-mail to SharksTWC@HFboards.com, being sure to include your HF handle in the e-mail. Don't worry, this e-mail is not used for anything except receiving ballots, so your e-mail address will remain in the strictest confidence

2) Send me a PM

PLEASE DO NOT VOTE WITHIN THIS THREAD

THE RULES

1) You must make sure it is clear who you are voting for and for what award. If that means you copy and paste the ballot and mark your vote by bolding or putting brackets or asterisks or whatever around the name, or you simply remove the people you're not voting for, or whatever it doesn't matter. Just make sure there is no mistaking who you are voting for.

2) You cannot vote on any award for which you yourself are nominated. It's probably best to indicate that on your ballot where applicable. There are 2 exceptions to this rule. For the Boyle award (best GDT) and the Pavelski award (MVP), you may vote even if you are nominated, but you may not vote for yourself.

3) Please complete the entire ballot if at all possible. If on the team awards (specifically the prospect ones) you don't feel you know enough to make a choice that's fine, but so long as the award doesn't conflict with rule #2, it's highly preferable that you vote on everything.
4) To vote, you have 2 options: you can send an e-mail to SharksTWC@HFBoards.com (yep, we've got an e-mail address now ) or if you're paranoid about e-mails you can send a PM to me (I have the biggest inbox out of the TWC, so it makes sense for me to handle ballots). PLEASE DO NOT VOTE IN THIS THREAD

5) If you send an e-mail ballot (Which we prefer) please be sure to indicate your HF Handle clearly in it. We need to make sure we know who votes for a variety of reasons.

Failure to abide by the above may result in your ballot being voided.

Since this is a time-sensitive award, we're going to honor both 2008 and 2009 separately, so please vote for one nominee in each year:

YouJustGotPavelskied

2009 (joined between June 09 and June 10)
SactoShark
Danish Pastry
RoundsHansen32

----------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------

Dan Boyle Award (Best GDT)
Slight change of plans here. After seeing the initial glut of GDT votes for the Boyle and Setoguchi awards, it's become clear that people are voting the same for both awards (ie the people they say have the best GDTs are also the ones who are voted best GDT creators). So we're going to simplify things and just make one award for best GDT (it also saves people thinking they have to browse someone's GDT making history, which takes a lot longer). However, as a time sensitive award, it remains that you should vote once for each of the 2 seasons. Also note that the rule against voting where you are nominated is suspended for this award. You can't vote for yourself, but you can still vote if you have a GDT in this race.

Each name takes you to a representation of that person's best work for that season (either chosen by them or by me).

2008/09 season
Nighthock
Davidhye
blackholesun
Vaasa

Are some of these from last year? For some nominations, those posters are not even around that much anymore.

Some of it is, yes.

I don't believe any of the posters nominated for anything are banned, and i'm pretty sure I've seen almost all of them post at least once in the last couple months. the only significant exception may be the GDT award people, where I didn't cut anyone unless they had no usable GDTs or they were banned.

outside of the GDT award, who are you concerned about as a no-show?

Can I win an award for being the first person to send the email?

I'm not really concerned or complaining - I just don't remember seeing Space this season at all (at least until the playoffs). He's been a slacker this season. Yeah, you heard me Space. You better make up for it next season.

We need a worst poster category so that I can at least be nominated for something.

right now I know he's swamped with stuff because he's planning on moving up to Canada, getting married (I think) and other stuff. But he's definitely been around at least through the process of crafting the ballot (he's a member of the TWC)

Ok, I'm a complete moron. I forgot to add in the sharks team rookie of the year award to the ballot. the problem was that I copied this from an earlier version of the ballot that has all the same nominees, but was just missing that one award and some name changes (which I know I did fix)

so if you've e-mailed a ballot I will be replying to you shortly to ask for you to vote on the one additional award.

sorry for the inconvenience. This is all on me.

Cool little deal here. No way I am going to vote since I am too new still to make educated judgments about posters here. At least I know I killed any chance I will ever have to be a rookie of the year poster with my join date.

You're eligible for 10/11 rookie of the year.

theoretically no, he would've been eligible for 09/10 since the window is June-June. who knows though, we may end up altering the window in the future if we find it suits the purpose better.

Not like it really matters though. It is only brag worthy here and I would much rather brag about the sharks winning the cup a year from now than being a rookie of the year sharks poster.

Small change. Due to duplication of votes between the awards, we've merged the two very similar GDT awards (Boyle and Setoguchi) into one award for the best GDT. This makes it quicker for everyone (since voting for a creator may make some people want to go back and check multiple GDTs for each person and eat up a ton of time) and because it means we're not ostensibly handing out the same award twice.

So the Boyle award is now specifically for the best GDT as indicated through the examples provided for each candidate. Also you may vote on this award even if you are nominated for it, though you cannot vote for yourself.

thanks everyone.

Bump as a reminder to vote. Given how many people showed disappointment about missing out on last year's awards, the turnout so far is, shall we say, less than enthusiastic.

At the rate things are going, we're not going to get anywhere close to the voting turnout from last time.

You really couldn't find someone else to steal a vote or two from Max and Wineshark? There has to be a better talent evaluator on here than me. Than again, I'm not too sure I'd want to win an award named for Tim Burke. Just kidding Timmy, I wish only the best for you- say a trip to Europe.
