I agree, he would be paired with Boyle.

Murray never had great chemistry with Boyle, just better than Vlasic. Boyle need's a better skating and passing partner to be truly effective. Mitchell would be a good fit.

To be honest, I didn't want him because of injury problems. Looking at the options now I hope the sharks sign him for uber cheap.

Around 2.5, considering the injury. I'd expect around 4.5 if he was 100% cleared medically. One of the premier shut-down defensemen for sure...

i think he's signing for less than 2 mil. 2 million at the most. the longer this drags out, the less he signs for.

I definitely agree about the market and his age. I think saying he would accept a substantial discount is perhaps a little too presumptious. I know he owns the Brit and all, but if you will make 30-40% more somewhere else thats hard to turn down (just ask Nabby). I would love to see him here, I just don't see it happening. Especially after that mayers signing

I'm guessing $2.2 if he joins the Sharks.

If he signs for anything below 2 million, I am going to be very happy.

Boyle (6.67)-Mitchell (2)
Vlasic (3.1)-Demers (.5)
Murray (2.5)-Wallin (2.5)
Huskins (1.7)

That would also give us a trading chip to aquire another top 4, solidifying our D.

Boyle (6.67)-Mitchell (2)
Vlasic (3.1)-xxx (<4.7 or more if Mitchell signs for less)
Demers (.5)-Wallin (2.5)
Leach (.5)

I'd love Mitchell, but his concussion problems and lack of mobility worry me.

Salo is going to be out for a good part of the year with a torn achilles.

Most in Van would want Mitchell over Bieksa so trading Bieksa for cap room makes sense since that already seemed to be the plan.

And O'Brien and/or Alberts can be moved or waived, and really Alberts shouldn't be getting time on this team imo.

Gillis also stated today/yesterday that he is in talks with Willy and said he doesn't have cap concerns about signing him.

At 2.2 I'm thinking Vancouver just re-signs him. If we bite the bullet and give him a 2-year contract at around 2.2-2.5 then maybe we have a chance.

If Mitchell stays with Vancouver and Salo stops being injured, then holy ****:

Hamhuis-Ballard
Mitchell-Edler
Salo-Ehrhoff

Sure there's no #1 dman but this is deep.

That would be the hope, but who knows where he ends up.

Worry you more than every (or any) aspect of Niclas Wallin's game? Kent Huskins?

Actually yeah. Huskins isn't exactly a skilled defenseman, but he knows that and therefore plays a very simple defensive game. He doesn't try anything flashy, just stays within himself, making him a pretty trustworthy third pairing defenseman. He was off in the beginning of last season, but he just came out of a pretty major foot injury so I'd give him some slack.
Wallin is a bit of an unknown, so we just have to wait and see on that point.
I just don't want Mitchell to try and do things he's not yet comfortable of doing. He's pretty solid and he knows that, I just don't want him to push it.

Mitchell would be like Wallin version 2. Both guys are slow defensive-oriented D-men on the downside of their careers. Plus Mitchell is still questionable as to whether he can still play post-concussion. This is a band-aid maneuver. We need a more durable solution a-la something like the Hammer gambit or a 2-way top 4 via a trade.

Wallin is and was never anything like Mitchell. They're not even comparable in their ceilings. Mitchell is only 33, he's not over the hill by any means.

Wallin has been, and always be a spare part. A plug. Mitchell, on the other hand, is one of the premier shut-down defensemen in the NHL. He's basically the captain of the Canucks. He's a fine number 2 defenseman, and he will also come cheap, as the injuries are suspect. Even so, a concussed Mitchell is much better than a healthy Wallin.

I think Mitchell will factor that into his decision. If he wants play time he may choose SJ. If he wants to split even time VAN may be the choice. I hope he wants to play some minutes so the scale tips in our favor.
