Eklund: Isles and Oil

here:
http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog/Eklun...Rumors/1/29594

for what it's worth (little) i'd have to guess that a deal involving a proven top 6 player and an albatross (souray) would be the likely topic of conversation. i say this because i cannot see us dealing our core youth away for anyone (though hall would be nice not happening).

anyone else hear something on this elsewhere?

Well, take a look at this post: http://hfboards.com/showpost.php?p=2...&postcount=162

PatientlyWaiting made a fairly big claim here.

PW, is THIS what you're refering to? Would you at least say the Oilers are the team involved???

Can't even fathom what would be involved.... but as a fan, I've been salivating over the thought of one day acquiring Paarjarvi-Svensson. Seeing him at the WC this Spring only convinced me of that 'desire' all the more.

Unless Edmonton is suddenly looking to dump Hemsky or Penner cheap (very not likely) I can't fathom what deal two teams that are both looking to rebuild would make.

The Isles aren't going to take Souray...they didn't pick him up for free, and with Witt gone, there is no contract to trade back. Plus, the Isles just added Wiz and I have a feeling they are done on D.

I don't doubt the Isles will swing another deal — but major??? Not without giving up something "major"

I can't see the Isles obtaining another defenseman. If anything a defenseman (Gervais/Martinek/Reese/Kohn) will be shipped out. I can't see any one of Tavares, Bailey, Okposo, de Haan, Hamonic, Petrov, Neiderreiter, Kabanov, Poulin, Koskinen, Nelson, Hillen, MacDonald, Neilsen, Streit or Schremp on the block.

I can see possibly Hunter as part of a deal. Possibly one of our "lesser" prospects like a Kessel, Ness, Trivino, Rhakshani, Toews. I could also see them moving a pick again — perhaps a second rounder, perhaps a first round pick. But if that is the case it has to be something significant coming back — it wont be a rental like Smyth.

Overall — I would not look for a deal — it just does not make sense, unless it is one of three goalies. Snow is not going to take on either of Souray, Hemsky or Horcoff. We dont need a smallish center like Cogliano. And I don't think Penner — who I would LOVE to grab, is going to be coming here without giving up one of the players mentioned above, and Im not a fan of that program; that's the Mike Milbury way.

Isles have no need for Souray or any of the Oilers Dmen. With 8 Dmen deep plus DeHaan and Hamonic in the wings forget Dmen....

If the Isles need anything it is a #2 center with size.

I don't see The Oilers fitting the bill as a trade partner. I could see the Oilers wanting to rid of Horcoff and that big contract..........yuck ...and The Isles would want it why?

I hope it's Penner. I know the chances of us getting him are slim to none, but it would be great if we did.

As soon as I read this I figured this has gotta do with what PW posted over here last night, but I just have no clue whatsoever what kind of "big" trade the Isles could make with the Oil that would benefit both clubs.

Disgraced Cosmonaut is my new favorite handle. Cracker is fantastic.

Don't know about Souray, but then again, a week or so ago I posted the rest of the division's top 4. Ours could go from:
Streit, Martinek, Eaton, Hillen to Streit, Souray, Wiz, Eaton.

Holy ****, that's a lot better.

I can see the Isles wanting to open a spot for Petrov, El Nino, Ullstrom, or Martin...

I can see the Oilers having interest in Bailey, Comeau,Joensuu,Hunter, Martinek, Gervais....not sure if Hillen, or AMac would be on the block...others

Still don't see a match for The Isles....with The Oilers

I don't like Shremp as a #2 center....Bailey back to center a better choice.......

Guess we will find out sooner or later....

Isles Biggest need still seems to be in my view a 1st or 2n line center with some size.

i tend to agree with the sentiments expressed, but i get the feeling that snow's not done. souray would be a weird get, but weird st. is where this franchise dwells.

while i like snow's moves, we have to bear in mind that wang's been behind some crazy stuff. i don't trust him not to do something crazy.

however, barring a deal that favors us clearly (and only provides "relief" to another team), i think garth's only sniffing around for an offensive piece.

ps- AV- Cracker is the handle's inspiration. i didn't want to use "plasma in amsterdam" or "junkie" anything, so i went with this.

Oilers may want to free up space for some of there up and coming prospects. Hemsky or Penner would be a great improvement to our top six, however its unlikely the oilers would want to part with them.

Souray is intriguing to say the least. Another bonifide top 4 defenseman and the d corps would be fantastic compared to last years. A top six of:

Streit - MacDonald (Great Chemistry with Streit)
Eaton - Wisniewski
Souray - Martinek/Hillen

Thats a pretty respectable blue line IMO. Only thing is that I hear Streit and Souray dont get along from there montreal days. Who knows? The thing about a trade between the isles and oils is that we are both in a similar posistion... It doesnt make alot of sense for us to be doing buisiness unless its a prospect swap or salary dump.

With Tyler Seguin signed I think The smoke screen has been set.....saying it is a deal with the Oilers when it really will be with The B's who need to unload $$$$

Talk has been of Savard but he has a NTC....and I don't see him coming over....but a guy Like Patrice Bergeron...is a gamble Snow would take I feel only one year left making 4.750mill

Often hurt almost 5 mill player....seems his days are more likely over then Savards.....

Could be interesting...just a thought

If a deal is in place, it won't be for Hemsky or Penner. I'm sure Oilers fans would speculate that they'd be getting Okposo or Streit. Too essential to the core of their team.

Cogliano for Hunter or a defenseman, seems realistic in my opinion.

I am a big Penner fan, most are not, my guess is that some kind of trade around him could be in the offering, but then again this is Eklund, he could easily be saying Islanders and Dallas talking about Neal.

The Isles will take back Souray if they can nab Hemsky.

That's all I'm saying. You guys can say whatever you want about me, Snow is ready to make a trade for a top 6 forward. It could go down today.

We'd be taking back way too much salary to give up those guys. I can see putting the 2nd in 2011, and 2 cheap expendable players in such a deal like Gervais and Schremp, of course Edmonton already flushed Schremp down the toilet.

Ironically enough, I believe Matt Martin is one of the absolute LAST guys this team is going to trade until it knows what exactly it has in him. If he becomes what he's been astronomically heading towards the past two years, he'll be absolutely VITAL to a team trying to compete in the East.

Souray:
I know these things aren't written in stone, but if Snow knows that Streit and Souray do not get along, I mean really can't work together, then I do not know why he'd bring that element into the locker room.

Just sayin'...
