What Does John Madden Do Or Where Does He Go?

Will he resign with the Hawks for cheap? Could Chicago now let him go for real and give their young guys an even bigger shot to make the club? Is John Madden going to retire on top?

I've been wondering about what's been going on. Maybe he's been holding out to see if the Hawks would eventually have space for him.

Thoughts?

Madden, at this point, is not a 3rd line checking center. He's a faceoffs/PK specialist. He hasn't been a 3rd line checking center since 2007/08 with the Devils.

So 4rth liner, I too would love him in SJ, we need help on the PK, and a good faceoff man to replace Manny

I would like him to come to Pittsburgh. I like Madden more than Brendan Morrison and Eric Belanger. I think were either going to sign a top 6 winger or sign a 3rd Line Center. Also think Madden would work well with Cooke and Kennedy.

Kunitz-Sid-Dupuis
Tangradi-Malkin-Staal
Cooke-Madden-Kennedy
Rupp-Talbot-Adams/Letestu

The Oilers need a guy like him.
But does John Madden need a team like the Oilers?

I'll say the Habs need a guy like him too. But I don't think Habs management thinks they do. I'd take him at $1M or less on a 1-year deal for the Habs, however.

Madden isn't a quarter of the player that Morrison or especially Belanger are at this point.

Cant see him in Chi unless he decides to sign right near league minimum...due to Chi cap issues...unklless he really liked it and thought them ready for another cup.

SJ might be a decent fit..but that will wait till they sign a top 4 dman

Oilers could really use his services - and I'd be willing to overpay to get him on a one year deal ($2.5M/1 year).

I always thought he declined every year since the lockout but this year he really stepped up again and showed he is capable of a 3rd-line role on a bad team or at least a 4th on a good team. Still a very responsible defensive player, doesn't have entirely useless hands and is a very hard-working, multiple cup-winning vet who can pass on a lot.

What does he do? He plays hockey.
Where does he go? Wherever the money takes him.

37 year old with 3 cup rings will be looking for cash with his career winding down.

Montreal.

Current centers:
Eller
Plekanec
Boyd
Maxwell
Desharnais

Add Madden and they have a little more depth to work with, and a good face-off guy.

You would be sadly mistaken if you think John Madden is anywhere near Belanger's level.

I could also see him with the Habs. I think we're too jammed at bottom six centres though (Eller, Lapierre, Boyd all for 2 spots), but I could still see Gauthier give him a shot.

I agree, sadly. The guy was fantastic for the first half of the year, but then he really fell off the map. A solid penalty killer and faceoff man, but little more than that at this point.

Though it's unlikely I'd love to see Madden back for one more year with the Hawks.

If only the Flyers hadnt wasted 1.1 mil on Shelley.

He would be a perfect 4th liner.
