Who makes the jump?

We have basically three veteran D-men returning in DD, JJ and Scuds. Matt Greene will eventually be back as well. I assume though this will mean at least two defensemen will be counted on to make the jump from the minors/junior this year. So who will it be? The candidates will include:

Drewiske, Muzzin, Voynov, Campbell, Martinez, Fransson, Hickey, Teubert, Deslauriers and Forbort. If I've left out anyone, feel free to add him to the list.

I didn't list Harrold, as I don't want to get lynched.

I think Voynov and Fransson make the jump, with Drewiske as the 7th d-man, but with good camps a number of these guys could make it. Who do you think makes it from this group?

This is an interesting thread with the wide variety of answers.

I'm saying Fransson and Muzzin but I'm listing Hickey as a dark horse to blow the team away in camp this year.

I agree that Hickey is the best as a darkhorse, with Forbort being second.

I think the best thing about the thread is we have TEN, count them TEN legitimate options in just prospects alone to fill the final two/three defensive spots and not one is named Harrold or Jones.

Drewiske-#7 defenseman
Muzzin and Fransson will make it.
Voynov gets traded or goes to KHL.
Hickey makes the team next year. Campbell a darkhorse.

I really want to see what Fransson can do. I think Voynov makes it out of camp as well.

Fransson & Muzzin out of camp.

Hickey, Voynov (if still around) and Martinez get call ups, or swap positions with one of Fransson, Muzzin, DD44 during the year.

Two rookie defensemen?

Only one makes it and I don't know enough about any of them to hazard more than a guess: it'll be a PMD and it'll be Fransson, 'cause he's older.

Voynov and Muzzin, im suprised no one had this combination as IMO they have the best chance to make it.

As of now, it'll be two. If we add a defenseman obviously that will change, but as of now we have DD, JJ, Scuds and, at some point, Greene, hence the need for two rookie defensemen.

I say Voynov has the best chance cause as we've seen DL likes to have people put in their time and Voynov has played 2 seasons of AHL. I bet unless Hickey has a great camp DL sticks him in the AHL so he can hopefully play a full season.

Then I say Fransson even though thats 2 PMD(I think) but like with Hickey unless Muzzin has a great camp I just don't see it.

Randy Jones is still available. DD44 is still on the roster. I just don't see Lombardi going with two rookies -- even as a stopgap until Greene gets back. I'm convinced the club will add another veteran stay at homer, somehow. So that's Doughty, Scuderi, Johnson, New Guy and two slots. One goes to a rookie. One goes to Drewiske. Harrold is #7.

Does anyone see Lombardi having Voynov develop in the KHL for a year like Filatov? That wouldn't be a bad decision.

And once again, this thread is based on the premise we have TWO open spots and until we sign the veteran "New Guy" there is going to be two rookies coming in. If we sign a veteran, that will obviously change.
