Best Hockey Movie of All Time?

The offseason is killing me so I have been watching a bunch of hockey movies recently. Which is your favorite? Did I miss any?

McGrath: No, you're not.
Johnny Upton: I'm gonna walk down that stinkin' runway, open up this ****** robe and wiggle my dick at 'em! And do you know why? Because I want you to have a heart-attack and die so we don't have to do this **** again! You and your ****ing fashion shows!

Slapshot gets my vote, there's just nothing better.

However, if I have a big game coming up I usually watch Miracle.

This was a tough call between drama and comedy, but I had to go with Slapshot over Miracle. It is a very tough call though because they are both so great in their own rights.

By the way, for any of you Blu-ray nuts, Miracle is amazing.

tough call for me between Slapshot and Miracle. Thinking about that 1980 team and what they did still gives me goosebumps

I echo this sentiment. This was basically my thought process.

When it comes to a dramatic portrayal of hockey that shows the kind of mental readiness the game requires as well as how hard hockey players fight to get where they are....Miracle shows the sport better than any other.

Slapshot encompasses the spirit of oldschool hockey in a goofy, goony sense. But ultimately, if there's just one movie I have to show someone who doesn't know hockey...it's probably Slapshot.

Anyway, is Miracle's Blu-ray transfer really good? And are there good features? I never really thought to look for it.

Im gonna admit that I was very underwhelmed by Slapshot. Much like I was underwhelmed by the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto. There were a couple funny parts but I dont think its the best hockey movie of all time.

I grew up with the Mighty Ducks, as did most people here, but even they arent the best. (Even though Gunnar Stahl was ****ing awesome)

Pond Hockey was a fantastic documentary but I think I have to give the edge to Miracle. They got everything, basically, spot on. The players look very similar, Kurt Russell did a great job as Herb Brooks. Only complaint was the way the Russians played. They made it look like the Russians were actually physical, and even I'm not dumb to think they were.

Was watching a behind the scenes video on the movie and they said they even gave the players on the Russian team T-blade's to wear because it sounded more crisp and clean, the way the Russians played, and gave the USA players a little rougher blade. It was pretty phenomenal how they taped every play just like it happened in the 1980 game. Every movement was matched up with the movie and the actual game.

For me, Miracle was the best movie ever made.

For me it was Slapshot with Youngblood as a close second. Then Miracle.

Slapshot. I didn't like Miracle. I just hate sports dramas in general as I think they're stupid for the most part.

Mighty Ducks series gets credit for the miraculous triple deke and the unstoppable knuckle-puck though.

100% agree.

And yes, the transfer is perfect, thank God. The features are about the same (if not exactly the same) as on the DVD. I bought it the day it came out lol. Could not wait.

Now, here's hoping for a Slapshot Blu-ray.

Torn between Slapshop and The Rocket. I have to believe none of you have seen The Rocket since its Canadian, otherwise I'd assume it would have got a few more votes.

By far the best serious hockey movie I've ever seen, if you don't mind reading the odd subtitle.

I voted for Youngblood. Yeah Miracle and Slap Shot are great...but my buddies and I were all nuts for Youngblood, we'd watch it all the time, to the point where we'd bust out quotes, from "back to the pond rookie" to "tea with Ms. McGill".
