Rangers have a plethora of defensemen at the moment and it seems like the coaching staff is willing to go young, don't see why we'd need Mitchell unless Redden is getting waived.

Can anyone verify this as a source? It seems to me that anyone can throw something on Twitter and everyone goes in a tizzy.

Mitchell signing would signal the end of Redden for sure. Adds snarl to the backend too.

Never heard of this guy, so I'd take this info with a grain of salt.

me likey if true, it gives the D depth. Mitchell can log minutes big time if he's healthy

it could signal end of Redden but it may also signal Rozsival dealt for maybe a C?

Staal resigning of course is the most important

Never heard of this guy before...

I think 2-signings would have been leaked by someone a little more reputable..

How often does a nobody have this type of information regarding two separate signings?

I'll be happy with Mitchell if he's replacing Redden... Not so much if he's replacing Rozsival.

Unless Sather flipped Rozsival into a Gomez-type deal.

Good point.

If true however I would be happy with both moves (assuming that's the end of Redden).

5 year contract for Staal that takes him right to UFA would be a monumental blunder. Go 3 years, or 6+ imo.

Where would this put us, at 18 defensemen? That's enough to fill out the bluelines of all three Rangers, Wolf Pack and Checkers (are they still the Checkers?)

17.5, you're giving Redden too much credit.

I'd love to see Mitchell here. He's the perfect kind of guy to pair with MDZ.

on paper would be pretty good

Staal, Rozsival
Mitchell, Del Zotto
McDonaugh, Girardi
Eminger

Redden down. I would assume Gilroy loses his spot to McDonaugh. It would open up trade options

this is not likely a reliable source but u never know

This is the only thing I found regarding Mitchell and the Rangers. It's a month old
http://nyrangersblog.blogspot.com/20...-mitchell.html

Quote:
Rangers Looking at Mitchell
At the very end of Steve Zipay's Blue Notes blog post today he says that a name he's heard the Rangers kicking around is UFA D Willie Mitchell.

Mitchell known as a shutdown defenseman missed the second half of the season last year in Vancouver after suffering a concussion.

Mitchell made $3.5 million last season.

...not sure what the market would be for Mitchell but $3.5 million is a bit expensive for a concussed defenseman who hasn't scored more than four goals in a season.

...plus there's really no room for a defenseman on the team right now. Having said that the Rangers could use a shutdown defenseman.
Who knows?

Mitchell doesn't fit on the Rangers. Forget about Redden. He's done. McDonagh is close to playing at the big show. Mitchell has not fully recovered from his concussion. He is planning to wait until later this summer to determine his future.

Quote:
Ran into former Wild defenseman Willie Mitchell and his wife last night here in Minneapolis, and Mitchell, who completed a four-year deal with his hometown Vancouver Canucks, is recovering well from a concussion that cost him much of this past season. He was hit from behind by Evgeni Malkin. Mitchell definitely has plans to hook on with a team later this summer, but he'll be patient to continue his recovery.

A 5 year contract takes Staal 1 season past group III. He is 4 years away from being a group III assuming the age remains at 27 in the new CBA. The Rangers want to buy out at least 2 group III years from Staal.

Sather saying "some tinkering" could be the biggest smoke screen of all time. Yet another D man would signal something big happening to upgrade the front end. When the Gaborik rumor surfaced, it meant anything could happen. It would be unprecedented in the Cap era but a multi player/teams announcement could be in our future. Leave it to Slats. He did say they were working hard.

Apparently Staal will sign in the range of 3-5 years... I will make a Twatter and predict that Kovalchuk will sign for money... To play hockey.

This guy could very much be legit, give him a chance, but for now, be wary...

Damn I wanted the Devils to sign Willie Mitch before they got Volchenkov. He'd be a great pick-up on the cheap if his concussion problems from last season are behind him.

i wish this were true ... willie mitchell is a beast on the blue line

staal-mdz
rozsival-mitchell
girardi-mcdonough
eminger

i love this group of defenseman ... rozsival, mitchell and staal are all solid defensively ... girardi and mcdonough as #5, and 6 .... eminger as the 7th

i wouldnt be suprised if the rangers made the playoffs with that group of defense infront of the king ... you only need to score two goals to win most games

this move makes too much sense ... sather won't do it he doesnt have that much logic

Went through his tweet history, couldn't really conclude anything.

And if Redden is waived and Rozsival is traded, Mitchell would be awesome.

worst case is he fights for a job with McD in camp and whoever loses out goes to the AHL for depth

Girlroy, Valatenko, Sauer in the minors ready for call up is not a bad thing
