Max Afinogenov to decide by Friday?

http://insidepittsburghsports.com/st...nogenov/28177/

A few questions on this:

1. does anyone know anything about this site? is it at all legit?

2. Where do you guys think he might sign?
I'm thinking that it may be with an NHL team. The KHL season does not start until September 8 so he does not have to rush and sign there now. That leads me to think this might be with an NHL team instead.

Also, Atlanta just cleared some cap space and budget space by getting rid of MacArthur and T.White. I know they only offered Max a 1 year deal so far and he didnt like that, but maybe they are now willing to go for 2 years?

Pittsburgh with Geno?

EDIT:

Ok so the article basically says

Quote:
The chances of the Penguins signing a top-6 winger are getting slimmer by the day as free agency is now into day 34.
Another winger who will be off the board this week is 30 year old winger Maxim Afinogenov, a league sources tell Inside Pittsburgh Sports.com. Afinogenov will make a decision on his playing future that includes the NHL and KHL by Friday evening.
Anyone hoping to see Afinogenov join close friend Evgeni Malkin, don't count on it. The Penguins have not made a late push to get into the mix and are not a suitor for Afinogenov, Inside Pittsburgh Sports has learned.
So I guess no Geno for Afino

I hope he stays in Atlanta. He played well there and that team has a lot going for it now.

Site is hit or miss.

It was started by a kid in his dorm room.

not really legit. he'll get some decent rumors that are also reported elsewhere here and there, but in general he's a pittsburgh mini-eklund. from what i've seen on the pens board, most don't take him seriously.

I would love to see him back in Atlanta I would love to see a 3 year deal for 2.4 mil a year. The only thing with Max is how lucky we were to have him healthy. This past year was his first full 82 game season of his carreer. So the Injury history def. goes into play

I actually think he would do very well in L.A. with a guy like Kopitar. If he can put up 24 goals with Antropov, he should pot at least that with Kopitar.

It would be fun to see a Russian - Slovenian - Ukrainian line!

Afinogenov - Kopitar - Poni
Smyth - Schenn - Brown (SICK line)
Williams - Stoll - Simmonds
Parse - Handzus - Richardson

I think thats would be a very deep lineup, one of the best in the league!

I've heard it said that Max doesn't really have a road back into Russia, that he burned a lot of bridges/considered North America his home now, and wouldn't play for the KHL? I've asked about it, but I can't remember getting any responses from anyone who remembers hearing the same thing. Anyway, the point is that considering the paycut he took last year to play for a team that wasn't necessarily a contender, and the fact that his value is higher now than it was then, I definitely see Max staying in the NHL.

I think a 1 year deal in LA would be great for us. Two years is possible, but more tricky for DL. If we signed him though, we'd have a very deep forward ranks and can focus completely on sorting out that blueline of ours which is a mess.

I know it's just as crappy of a source, but FWIW...

Did some digging, Afinogenov has 4 KHL offers(1 being SKA) and 3 NHL offers, his agent told me his priority is to stay in NHL.

I also see PIT as a solid fit for Afino, but his likely asking price is too much for what the Pens have left.

Atlanta seems logical, and I am still hearing that BB is interested in bringing him into TOR (though only for a year)...

Lots of offensive upside in the right situation with the right linemates.

We have this guy named Alex Ponikarovsky that recently signed with us, so you may want to slide him in there somewhere.

Is Pittsburgh out? I really hope not Afinogenov is the guy ive wanted the Pens to sign since day one. Watched him in buffalo awhile ago and hes so explosive he may not score every time but is a very exciting player to watch. Please Shero sign Afino.

He should keep playing in that adult league in Alabama. He'd have 800 goals by the end of the season GUARANTEEING him a big contract with a NMC.
