Calgary on Ettiquette

Great article today in the Tampa Tribune...

Now we know how bad it can get.

We have just been given a lesson in etiquette by Calgary. We have been trash-talked by a city whose main event is a rodeo, complete with a chuck-wagon race.

We got told what-for by folks whose lot in life is to shovel up what the bulls leave behind.

All I can do is LOL at this one. Eric Francis is a knob. Nobody in Calgary cares for what he has to say, but it is hilarious that his ramblings caused such an uproar in Tampa.

As someone who has been a resident of both cities let me just say what a bunch of whiners the media has been. Oh, and the fans aren't much better. What the hell do the fans from each city actually know about the other? Not a damn thing. The fact of the matter is that there is very little difference between McLeod Trail and Dale Mabry. There is very little difference between Chinook Center and Citrus Park Mall. Both cities have strong points and weak points. So all of you shut the hell up and focus on the hockey.

What does he think there's cow pastures in the middle of the city or something?

We live in a CITY. I'm sure almost nobody in this city has anything to do with shoveling up bull dung.

Guy makes himself sound a little clueless with that statement. As if the whole city has to do with rodeo's and stampedes. If anything it's an oil and gas city.

Thanks for trying to insult us though. He'll have to hit a little closer to the mark to get anybody riled up. Sounds like he's talking about Calgary 75 years ago...

Considering he makes more self-depricating comments about Tampa than anyone else, it's mostly harmless.

I dunno.. i could really care less about what the media is saying about either city...

there's only so much that you can write about hockey.. after that, you look for other stuff

anyways.. its eric francis of the calgary sun.... i mean, that alone explains everything

i'll focus my attention to the good ol hockey and not bother with stereotypes about each other's city

Why does the media feel the need to attract attention to itself with these pointless mudslinging contests? Focus on the hockey...sheesh...

Tampa's biggest attraction? Leather muppets: http://www.losrudos.com/ahh12.jpg</FONT>

Gotta hand it to the Hulkster though, he has stuck by this team from the start. I remember seeing him on the talk shows in the mid 90s and mentioning he was a huge hockey and Lightning fan. His son Nicholas took up hockey in a program strated by the Lightning..

I think Henderson could have done a better job of countering that mut. We didn't even boo the team, but the horrible officiating...if he'd watched the Lightning play, as seldom as Game 2 vs the Flyers where we were getting blown out 6-0 yet were chanting "Lets Go Lightning" with neither a boo nor a hiss..and atleast 80 percent of the stadium still intact, he'd swallow his comments harder than a dirty porn star.

....and if im not mistaken..it was game 4 vs SJ that Calgary plastered the ice with miscellaneious items and caused a 2 minute delay.

I'm not at all ragging on Calgary, but I hate ignorant comments by people who make a living out of pulping on fodder. He deserves a good rip since you could disclaim every one of his comments with ease. A VERY cheap move to sell papers

Ah, who cares.

I actually like Calgary, its a really nice city, never been to Tampa, so don't think that I'm bias just because I have a Tampa avatar.

Personally I think this is great. Don't be mistaken, the players are focusing on hockey alone, but this is adding a little extra fire to the series/rivalry to some fans, so what is the harm?

We're a team of sore losers, really," Flames defenseman Andrew Ference said. "We hate losing. You look from our captain down. Jarome hates losing, whether it's anything in life. I am not just saying he's the only one, but our team feeds off our captain. Our team is constructed of a bunch of guys that have a lot of pride and hate to see somebody else be victorious."
and thats the right attitude for the playoffs because the playoffs are a war, nothing more, nothing else.

Neither editor has any credibility left standing after naturally swaying towards their respective city. It was only a matter of time before each side started the mudslinging, so this kind of drivel isn't unexpected. Besides, people soak it up and love to hate the other team, which can only be done through articles like this one.

People in Tampa Bay are going to have a heyday calling us all cowboys and other associated lingo, but hey - we can't deny our roots. How is this offensive to any Calgarian? I'd at least prefer to be called a *****-shoveler than an Edmontonian.

Nope. We sent them off to San Jose as part of Northern California's beautification project.
