The NBA is looking to contract some teams in the US. This could be good for Montreal.

There's no chance that we get a team. Even though tonight's game is sold out, there still aren't enough hardcore b-ball fans in Montreal to make it work. RDS barely even mentions the NBA on it's highlights show and I can't remember the last time I heard basketball talk on the radio shows except for during March Madness.

Yeah but what came first? The Chicken or the egg? I don't think there ever will be a fanbase for Basketball without a team in the city. I mean what else is there? CIS Basketball? CIS doesn't know how to do any sport.

Looking forward to watching the game in TSN2. Stern just told the press that the financial situation isn't good for the league. For him to say so about his league isn't a good sign. Would be too risky for bring a team to Montréal right now with the financial situation of the league.

Team990 covers basketball everyday, Marinaro even has an expert from NYC on his show regularly. McGill is Rich in basketball history & Montreal has a large black community that follow's it.

If NBA decides to expand into Canada, I think Vancouver would be the first one to get a franchise back.

Having said that, its tough to build a team up here. It may not seem like a big deal to us, but NBA players from USA generally dislike the notion of playing in Canada. The raptors got the right idea by heavily scouting europe, but that can only take you so far.

That's because they are in cities like Memphis, Milwaukee, Indiana, New Orleans etc.. As much as I like the rivalry between Montreal and Toronto, Montreal is a far better city for sports than the ones I mentioned.

Besides it's just 41 more dates in the Bell center which is always a good thing.

Think about this.. there is only one franchise in Canada, and with one team in Canada the country is producing a lot of high level talent (that goes to the NCAA). Imagine what 3 more teams would do. The game was developed by the McGill man afterall.

Why did the NBA go to Vancouver in the first place anyway? I mean, we have way more people, not to mention WAY WAY more black people, our geographic position is more convenient than Van and the possibility of a rivalry with TOR is there.

me too but in the same time , I'm not sure NBA will survive in MTL. I think we can sold out NFL games all season long but it will never happen. MLB will never come back

Jack Armstrong the colour guy on tsn2 just said Montreal could possibly be a good place for an NBA franchise.

Of course he mentioned Vancouver would have to get one first, that'd be awesome if their were 3 canadian NBA teams.

I'm watching on MSG and their color guy said that Montreal's crowd is acting very much like one that has had an NBA team for a long time, compared to how Toronto's crowd was at first when they got a team.

I think the NBA would work better in Montreal than in Vancouver. But considering the fact that they could do the whole marketing around how an all-star is from the Vancouver region, I would see a team returning there before Montreal. They (the NBA and the players) have said numerous times that they made a mistake leaving Vancouver.
