With the way Oswalt has been pitching recently, he's Roy #1 right now.

Oswalt seems to be one of those guys who thrives in the big-game atmosphere.

He is, just look at his number over the last few years in September and October. He has never lost a playoff game.

edit: 62-16 in August and September.

With the way the rotation is set now, Halladay, Oswalt and Hamels will be the starters for both of the remaining Braves series.

Even better, Tim Hudson isn't scheduled for either series.

Hopefully we can get Halladay an extra day or two off at some point.

A set-up like this would keep the big 3 intact for the Braves series and also give them a few rest days:

@ Marlins
13: Blanton
14: Hamels
15: Halladay

vs. Nats
17: Oswalt (skip#5, normal rest)
18: Blanton
19: KK/Worley

vs. Braves
20: Hamels (extra day rest)
21: Halladay (extra day rest)
22: Oswalt

vs. Mets
24: Blanton
25: KK/Worley
26: Hamels (extra day rest)

@ Nats
27: Halladay (extra day rest)
28: Oswalt (extra day rest)
29: Blanton

@ Braves
1: Hamels
2: Halladay
3: Oswalt

Also, Josh Johnson will definitely not be pitching against us next series (we'll see Mendez again in his place), probably shut down for the year. Link.

Definitely. He's been flat out awesome.

When his pitches are on it's not even fair. There's a part of me that likes him more than Halladay...he's the prototypical pitcher in today's game as far as size and similar aspects go. But when you're regular sized and go out there and just pitch, making your stuff move like his fastball or changeup...man. It's just really neat to watch.

Halladay, Hamels, Oswalt is really, really scary. Arguably 3 of the top 20 pitchers in all of baseball in one rotation.

As of right now, not even arguably.

IF they make it in, I think they're going to be really, really f'ing dangerous.

- Halladay - Top 5, some fatigue concerns right now, but hopefully Charlie is smart enough to give him some time.

- Oswalt, guy dominates August/September/October and is 6-1 with a 1.98 ERA with us.

- Cole, some nice postseason pedigree and is FINALLY locating. We complained so long that he was elevating velocity at the expense of location, but he seems to be back in the 90-92 range with great location and the new cutter. Post-ASB ERA of 2.01.

So I mean, you have Doc and a couple guys with strong pedigrees that are pitching well right now.

Nice mixture, would be nice to have another arm or two in the pen though.

If the postseason becomes reality again (which I think it will) I think we'll be seeing balls to the wall type stuff. We'll have three legitimate horses, and you know each of those guys wants go at least seven. Unless one or two of them falls apart, I can see us only needing the bullpen for the 8th and 9th.

This isn't to say I don't think it could be a concern. I think if it does turn into something to really worry about, it'll jeopardize the entire postseason run. But I don't feel it's more likely than what I said above.

No team in baseball can touch that 3-man rotation. None. It's going to be absolute hell for teams to have to face each of those guys twice in a 7-game series. If the back end of our pen can hold things down, we're looking really, REALLY dangerous. I still think not having a reliable lefty in the pen is going to screw us at some point, but, whatever, now all I can do is hope I'm wrong. I'm positively giddy about the stretch run.

I seriously couldn't wait for this moment. I still laugh at all those who said they would've rather kept Happ.

He's locked up for next year, and, if we want him, we can exercise the option in his contract for 2012.

I would hope for a 2-3 year deal. Ruben wouldn't give him over that, especially for a 32+ year old guy.
