Apparently, NHLCI will be added to Optik this coming season. Can't wait!!!!
As in NHL Centre Ice?

I hope this Optik thing and Telus TV are the same thing, if so I'll be stoked.

Optik TV is just a newer and better version of the old Telus TV. You must upgrade to Optik to get NHL CI (likely) and the cost remains the same for TV... Just a $4 increase in internet which bumps it to 15 MB from 2.88 MB.

Telus has NFL Sunday Ticket now which pretty much guarantees NHL CI on Optik/Telus TV.

I've heard this as well too, really excited as this is the first year I've been able to get Centre Ice. Really awesome service despite the blackouts and the odd game that isn't shown (usually against NYI or Minny).

The most frustrating thing was looking forward to a Washington game only to have it in worse than SD format.

Kills the evenings sometimes for us guys that are trying not to drink on weekdays

Some of Vancouver's sports, heck sports fans all over Western Canada, are bubbling over with everything from frustration to anger to a feeling of helplessness.

Rogers Sportsnet ONE, a shiny new, national channel just launched with some primo programming. There's 25 Blue Jays games, elite premier soccer matches and in the not-too distant future 13 Vancouver Canucks games (not to mention Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers games).

And you (BC residents) can't see any of it. How does it feel to be caught up as pawns in a multi-million dollar tug of war? Not so good for you and potentially embarrassing for Canucks Sports & Entertainment which crowed that it was "committed to providing our loyal fans an affordable opportunity to watch all 82 regular season games on TV and online" when the three-year deal with Sportsnet ONE was announced.

The stakes are high (ish), at least in terms of dollars. Sportsnet swam in record profits last fiscal year — $40.7 million, nudging past TSN for the first time. The network is looking to expand. Enter Sportsnet ONE
It hit the scene August 14 but did it without distribution in the west as Rogers is still trying to broker a financial deal with the companies that would carry the channel — Telus, Shaw, Delta cable and all of the satellite providers.

The backlash from sports fans — admittedly an entitled bunch — has been both intense and predictable, notably in Vancouver where Canucks fans had just finished celebrating the end of pay-per-view only to find out those games have been moved to a channel they can't get.

"We expect the Canucks to be on or we wouldn't have done the deal," said Sportsnet spokesman Dave Rashford. "We expect it to be available to everyone.

The thing that bothers me isint that it isint available here yet because it will be here by the time the NHL season starts it is that they removed programs from Sportsnet's existing channels and put them on a channel no one except Rogers subscribers can get. If they were adding programming then all the power to them to use more MLB games or using the games that used to be PPV as leverage to get cable companies to carry it but instead they take MLB games away.

Thats ********.

No. 40 something on Sportsnet Pacific, plus TSN and CBC games. 13 games on Sportsnet One.

Only 13 games of the Canucks will be on Sportsnet One. 45 will be on Sportsnet Pacific and the rest on TSN and CBC.

Nobody knows where Sportsnet One will end up as far as line-up goes. It's all speculation now. Also, what it will cost extra.

Not nearly good enough.

Jays have been one of the most entertaining teams in baseball this season. Great pitching moments & big bats for an underdog story.

I don't even understand why we have cable carriers as the only option in 2010.

Broadcasters should sell direct to consumers on-demand and just cut out the middleman.

Uhh... I'd rather not have to wait for 100+ technicians from 100+ broadcasters to show up to my home to install their direct line to my house.

Who is going to pay for maintaining cable lines otherwise?

I was thinking more along the lines of IPTV, not through cable.

I can subscribe to the entire NHL or MLB season directly from those companies, no reason why this business model can't work everywhere else assuming the programming is actually worth paying for.

I agree with this; I'm getting pissed about missing all these Jays games coming down the stretch. It's terrible.

I have a few friends who dont have cable anymore. Some shows stream online for free and they just download shows they want to watch.

The technology is here now but it is a little harder than simply turning on your cable box.

Agreed. Most shows are available and Hulu will eventually become available up here. Getting your TV through the internet possible but it is not simple. The mass market still wants a box to plug into their TV and watch what they want. I have the knowledge to get most of this content but I'd still rather just PVR it. It's easier.

If it wasn't for hockey I would have curbed my cable box a few years ago.
