Schenn would have to have a Kopitaresque camp to make the team if Kovalchuk was signed. No Kovalchuk, increases his chances of making the team. He would be able to fill in as a top 6 winger without Kovalchuk.
Would Schenn be able to score 40 goals? 'Cause that would be awesome.
This season will probably be the most money AEG has ever spent on the Kings.
I really hope Uncle Phil wont have to stand in a bread line as a result.

Should be an interesting ride from this point out for Kovy. The KHL stuff would be a big bad move and a total reversal of opinion for Kovy but at this point, ya have to wonder.

Yeah, kinda tough at this point to feel any concern for the mercenary duo of Kovy-Gross.

I honestly believe that Kozun is far more likely to be able to do that than Schenn, but wouldn't that just be F-in amazing to find that one of out prospects could fill the "sniper" hole we have.
As others are fond of saying, and then it really could be a case of: The Cup is Ours!

I think a lot of posters here forget the whole "development" part of being a hockey player, not only on the farm level, but on the NHL level as well. Even if the exact same Kings team as 09-10 hit the ice to start 10-11, wouldn't the expectation be that the additional year of experience alone would make them a better hockey club?
THen subtract Randy Jones from the mix and all bets are off, Kovy or no Kovy.

We will be upgrading in a few key areas over last seasons team. Along with WillieM we will be adding Westgarth over RI and that is a bit of an upgrade. We will be adding another one of our D kids over Harrold.
We will be adding at least two kid forwards from last year as well.
We are pushing at best with Poni over Fro but we are also adding the experience of our developing players as has already been said and that will be a big help too. We aren't a legitimate contender imo yet but we are a little closer.
All I know is that so far that Devils fans gut instincts have been wrong every single time.
1. They thought Kovalchuk would never be traded to Jersey and he was.
2. They thought that he'd get re-signed during the season and he wasn't.
3. They thought that he would be a King and he signed with them.
4. They thought they had a pulled a fast one on the NHL with that contract and that it was approved, when it wasn't.
5. They think that their owner JVB doesn't haven't total control over the team but after the comments LL made about the contract it looks like he does.
6. They thought FOR SURE that the NHLPA would win, and the NHL won.
7. They thought a new contract might take up to a week to get done, and here we are on August 26.
Now they are thinking that he'll take slightly less to stay with their team, that the threat of Russia is nothing and that he'll still be a Devil when all is said and done. If I were to go by what I just posted above then that makes for a very interesting time lol.
The only way Guerin works is if Simmonds or Williams are packaged up to bring a star sniper in
Soon to be 40 year old Bill Guerin shouldn't necessarily mean Simmonds (especially) or Williams will be on the way out. The dilemma that Guerin will have to deal with is finding an acceptable team to find a particular role with. Might not be that dissimilar to Brendan Shanahan's last year with the Devils. He didn't have the wheels to play on the top two lines but he had the offensive ability to still play on the PP.
Last year, Guerin had 11 PPG and 18 PP points. At even strength, he 10 goals and 27 points. At this point, seems like he'd be best utilized in a 4th line role with a healthy chunk of PP time. Bringing in Guerin would be at the detriment of guys like Parse/Westgarth rather than Williams/Simmonds.
Wouldn't mind seeing Guerin at a decent price, he was always one of my favs as a Devil.
Dmitry Chesnokov from Puck Daddy has stated that Kovalchuk's Russian agent has confirmed that there is a deadline they have set for Kovalchuk to sign a contract with an NHL club. Should nothing happen, he'll be signing with a KHL team with an out-clause. I believe he has until December in order to sign a contract without having to pass through waivers to return to the NHL.
For Ilya Kovalchuk(notes), his representatives, the New Jersey Devils and the NHL, time is running out. Weeks after Kovalchuk's 17-year, $102 million contract was rejected by the NHL, a difficult decision for the free-agent winger could come in the next 24-48 hours.
Sources close to Kovalchuk have told us that if the NHL does not approve any of the proposals submitted informally by the Devils, Kovalchuk may decide to play in the KHL next season.
Chesnokov just tweeted:
Quote:
Kovalchuk is to consider other options if no deal is in place tomorrow; more calls with the NHL scheduled
Guerin seems to have that Selanne-like instinct inside the offensive zone, always managing to find himself open for the pass for a cross ice feed. He also seems to score most of his goals from the off-wing/left side of the ice and also likes to position himself in front of the net on the PP. Might not be a bad option, but one of the wingers will have to shift to the LW should the Kings acquire Guerin.

Oh wow this is actually real news so basically if they can't get a deal in place Kovy will most likely go get a deal from the Rangers and Kings, and if that doesn,t work then he'll probably play in the KHL.

The Rangers? How the heck could they fit Kovy under their cap?

No, it's NJ or the KHL. I think NJ and Grossman are hoping that the league will let them sign Kovalchuk rather than lose him to the KHL. This sounds like an empty threat to me, Kovalchuk has no desire to play in Russia.
