So I don't keep track of thuggery in the NHL, so I ask you all who are the top 10 fighters in the NHL? And where does Shelley fit in? Is he #1, or do we have a slightly upgraded version of Riley Cote?

Somehow this thread will turn into a few hundred terrible jokes about why it sucks that a 4th liner isnt a goal scorer or how much better Asham is. Annnnnd go...

To answer the question. He is easily a top 5 heavyweight in the league.

Who cares how good of a fighter Shelley is, this team has no room for a 4th line goon with no scoring talent. For his salary we could have resigned Asham... who is waaaaaayyyy better.

To OP:

No idea where Shelley ranks, just for starters though I would say that he is worse than Colton Orr and Derek Boogard.

I know they weren't using him in Montreal last year but hadn't packed it in. I thought he went to Edmonton or something?

We can't forget about Matt Cooke. He's a tremendous fighter.

I can't tell if you're trying to say this is subjective, or are making a joke/innuendo about his right to privacy regarding his love life.

Fighters are archaic and useless in todays game, they won't win you a game, and more often then not loose you one. There is no way lavy has him on the ice in the playoffs. Nobody in history has ever said "fighting wins championships", yeah the bullies were nasty, but they had great scorers and bernie in net.

at least he will give us a good diversion. watching cote get punched in the face over and over made me sad.

...and yeah, having an enforcer is useless, blah blah blah.

he sure taught ol' riley a lesson there. i bet cote never hit another player or fought anybody else ever again after that.

edit: well at least if the flyers NEEEEEED an enforcer, it might as well be a good one.

Between 5 and 10. He will get the crowd juiced. Have yet to see someone walk out of the rink after a fight and if they did, wearing a dress is not proper attire to go watch a hockey game

Do you think he will dress in the 82 games it TAKES TO GET IN THE PLAYOFFS?

Shelley KOed Orr and it was a nice KO too. Laraque does not play hockey anymore, he is a politician now. imo Shelley is right behind Boogaard, maybe Ivanans is better. He won against Eric Godard and Parros in the past.

He probably is in the top ten, but he was signed for his 3rd line scoring prowess.
