Rangers Prospect Poll #21

Coming in at #20 is Brodie Dupont. 6'2" 210 lbs. Nicknamed "Moose" and drafted in the 3rd round (66th overall) in the 2005 draft. This pick was acquired along with the #56 overall (M.A.Cliche) from the Canadiens in exchange for the #45 overall pick used to select Latendresse. In 3 seasons with the Hartford Wolfpack, Dupont has averaged around 1/2 a point a game but projects to be a "heart-on-his-sleeve" physical forward-type, should he make his way to the NHL.

Fasth. Add McNasty. While I don't think he'll ever amount to much as a player, he's already got enough skill with the mitts that he's got a decent shot of becoming an NHL fourth line goon - whereas I don't think any of the other possible candidates have a decent shot of becoming an NHL anything.

Went with Fasth simply because I dont think anyone else on that list sniffs NHL.

And I agree with the guy who said to add McNaught

Fasth add Wilson

What is funny is that McNaught probably has the highest percentage chance of making the NHL for the simple fact that he is already VERY good at one aspect(fighting) and has the size to carry it over.

Wilson will be this years Weise, I am calling it now.

Fasth way out in front of Niemi...really? Niemi's been to the WJC and played well there.

Baldwin. Maggio is interesting. Niemi and Williams don't excite me at all. Fasth I don't know a thing about. Stajcer had a so so season on a weaker team. He has promise but he needs to do better.

Niemi is coming off a year in the WHL where he was second banana to Sam Klassen, who hasn't even been nominated to be added to the poll yet.

Draft position becomes relatively irrelevant when the player does not develop.

Klassen is also a year and a half older. A guy in his position absolutely should be "the guy" if he's playing Juniors at 21 years of age.

I think Niemi is still an interesting prospect. I agree his draft position is irrelevant. I'm voting for him based on his play.

You might not like Fasth much because you don't know enough about him but I think a lot of people will not vote for Niemi for the same exact reason. Sure, more info is available but that doesn't mean everyone will go seek that info. I'm torn between the two myself. Fasth did pretty well in J20. To provide context you previously asked about, Hagelin had 43 pts in 45 games and 61 pts in 43 games. Lars Eller had 60 in 47 games. Other players who've gone at similar clips are Viktor Stahlberg, Linus Omark, Bergfors, Anze Kopitar potted 51 pts in 32 games. Plenty of others have done well but are names I don't recognize. They could be big in the SEL however. His stats are good for players in that league so it's just a matter of how much do you trust our scouts?

Niemi on the other hand has a crazy cannon slap shot. won the 2008 WHL skills comp hardest shot I believe at 97 mph. I think he could develop into a Joni Pitkanen or Janne Niinimaa type if he continues to grow and bring the same level of play at each increasing level.
