Bold prediction of the season: Randy Jones scores 30+ pts and plays decent defense

If someone steps up in net, I like this roster to be fighting for a playoff spot.

Big "if", though I think.

Who would you guys prefer in net?

Thanks in advance

Thanks.
Maybe we should have a Vcash betting thread?

Opening Night Lineup:

Forwards:
St. Louis - Stamkos - Downie
Gagne - Lecavalier - Malone
Bergenheim - Thompson (questionable) - Purcell
Hall - Tyrell

-> Ritola and Moore both will not play. Ritola is not hurt, but he "hasn't had enough of a chance to absorb the system."

Defensemen:
Kubina - Clark
Hedman - Jones
Lundin - Smaby
Vernace

-> Ohlund - obviously - won't play. It seems like the Lightning will dress 7 Defensemen. Kubina and Clark played together for most of the time in practice. 2nd and 3rd line is just another guess.

Goaltender:
Smith - Ellis (or Ellis - Smith?)

Scratches: Ohlund, Moore, Ritola

No, it'd be too easy to exploit. When would the cutoff be? What happens once it leaks who will be in goal?

I seriously, seriously doubt they're going to start the season with 7 D. They'd more likely call up Harju or Durno, but I think Moore is going to play.

I think that Lundin should play in the top 4 rather than Jones.

Right, but Jones and Smaby in one pairing?

Flipping MSL and Downie around put them into their "traditional" positional spots. (LW shoots left, RW shoots right.)

On the second line, Gagne's offense takes priority over Malone's physicality. That I get.

Boucher's not trying to revolutionize the sport in his first game.

The team's twitter account also posted that it's looking like Moore is going to play. http://twitter.com/TBLightning/statuses/26765597751

It didn't really occur to me until just now another apparent contradiction in Tocchet's methodology. Going with Euro style handedness (inside shots), but also wanting physicality can't be done easily. Either it's finesse, or it's not. Grit requires board play.

He said he wanted to keep his game simple and straightforward. Harder to do when the players' handedness doesn't line up for that. It may also have created hesitation for wingers, when they did cycle sides, to stop and battle along the boards, even if they were better equipped for it, since they knew in the back of their heads that wasn't their spot. Hesitation leads to scoring chances, scoring chances lead to goals, goals lead to anger, anger leads to the dark side of the force.

End of last season:
Downie-Stamkos-MSL (R-R-L)
Purcell-Lecavalier-Malone (R-L-L)
