Well it was a good win anyway. We have two points over the next best group #2 now and our goal differential is good too.

I thought your post made it sound like 1972 was the first time West Germany wore green or that is was somehow unique to 1972, i thought i'd point out that they always wore it and that they won three world cups with it. In fact I'm not sure they ever wore anything else.

The switch to other colours is a fairly recent development, good thing they now come back to their normal colours.

Yeah, but he had one more assist and less playing time.

LOL talk about Swedish media making a big deal out of this.. What do you expect from our team if the sport is fighting over for the spot as the 2nd most popular sport with basketball.

C'mon we won San marino 1-0

Great commentary. Kuyt scored too but don't have that one. Liverpool show.

Poland has some nutters for goalkeepers. We all know about Boruc and formerly Dudek, but now...case in point, Szczesny just pulling a Scott Stevens on N'Zogbia.

EDIT: WOW, what a run and shot by Martin.

I just hope to see more choices for friendly opponents that are at our competition level until we get closer to the World Cup.

Sounds great. Should be a tough one, but we'll get to see the ball, have some scoring chances, and that makes me happy!

watching the U21 tournament opener (Belarus vs. Iceland), usually I enjoy these tournaments but this match, as typical with openers of international tournaments, is a case where both teams are playing not to lose. One shot off target for each team in the first half

Later today Costa Rica plays Honduras while Mexico takes on Guatemala in quarter final action in the gold cup. Both games in Jersey at the new Giants/Jets stadium or whatever they wanna call it.

Tomorrow sees USA vs Jamaica while Panama plays El Salvador at Washington.

If it interests anyone in the States, the U17 WC is on ESPNU/ESPN Deportes/ESPN3 currently North Korea is playing Mexico (the hosts) and later the Dutch play (the?)Congo.

Somewhat interesting, Mexico's keeper was born in California and is an academy product of MLS side FC Dallas.

Not sure if this is the correct place for this, but is this jersey legit? To see them this cheap has me thinking it's a bit fishy..

Holy ****, we finally have a REAL coach

Algeria appoints Vahid Halilhodzic as coach

ALGIERS, Algeria (AP) — Vahid Halilhodzic has been appointed Algeria coach for the next three years.

The Algerian federation says the Bosnian's main objectives will be to qualify the team for the next two editions of the African Cup of Nations plus the 2014 World Cup.

The 59-year-old Halilhodzic replaces Abdelhak Benchikha, who resigned after a 4-0 loss to Morocco in an African Cup qualifier earlier this month.

Halilhodzic won the league and Cup double in Croatia with Dinamo Zagreb this season. He has also coached Lille, lifting the club from second division to the Champions League, Paris Saint-Germain, Raja Casablanca and Trabzonspor.

A strong disciplinarian, Halilhodzic also led Ivory Coast but was fired just months before the 2010 World Cup.

Vahid is a good coach, a disciplinarian and be prepared for a lot of defensive games, even at Dinamo Zagreb most of his results were 1:0 in a league where Dinamo dominates. I though he got shafted at Ivory Coast, he lost like one game in 20+ matches, that one game happened to be in the African Cup and he was sacked for Eriksson

Rijkaard is the new manager of Saudi Arabia

I didnt know about Rijkaard

Regarding Vahid, i don't care jow he does it, I just want results

The Algerian Federation has been in talk with him for a year, but he was hesitant about coaching anotehr African team after the IC experience

He's an excellent coach, he definitely got shafted by Ivory Coast, that was a scum bag move.

apparently he had a falling out with Drogba and some of the other stars on the team too. Also, African NTs have little patience with their managers anyway, it didn't help that the African Cup was 6 months before the World Cup.

Even some Ligue 1 sides were kind of resistant to hiring Vaha (Valenciennes being the most notable). I was surprised he even came to Dinamo Zagreb, but then when we learned he made 900K euros a season it wasn't really shocking anymore. Less surprising was the fact he was sacked rather quickly, no way I saw it working between him and Mamic, he is a "my way or the highway" type coach which might have hurt him at Ivory Coast
