Who do we move to make room for Kariya? How much is a reasonable amount to pay him? For how many years? Are you willing to pay his salary if he gets hurt?

I'm not convinced he's what we need.

I liked him when he was here but I think his time is over (at least with us).

Yeah, he always came up big for us.

...when we were playing the Blue Jackets or some other awful team.

I counter this thread with Nashville needs Denis Grebeshkov.

bringing PK back is uniquely valuable to Nashville. Paul brings more to us than any other team. why? For one, even at his advanced age, he could still be a Top 6 forward for us. Most other teams would not make room for him on the first 2 lines. Second, he makes others around him better. Reuniting the 9-10-11 line could bring back Leggie's scoring touch. Three, he'd help on the PP. Great vision; smart; would bring us confidence. And finally, he'd have box office appeal. The casual fan would recognize his name and we'd wipe away the selloff stigma a little by bringing him back. Oh, and he'd get us 4 extra points a year on shootouts.

How much? South of $2mm. Sign him for one year. He'd be motivated to show he could play for a whole year so he could get another contract either here or somewhere else later.

How do we pay for him? Get Dumont to waive his NTC. Who'd you rather have: Dumont or Kariya?

The only thing I don't like about it is his size. We haven't had a power forward since Hartnell left, and even that is using the term loosely. Horny can play that role, but he doesn't really have the size to command much attention. He gets in front of the net, but isn't impossible to move. I'd rather have a Shane Doan type, but I digress. If we can get Paul (at the expense of Dumont) I'd do it, and see if we could add some size at the deadline.

Agreed! Big time, especially in playoffs!

Can I pack JP's suitcase now??? Would love to see Paul come back and possibly retire as a predator, but he is not huge in playoffs, but he definitely has the potential to come up big and be a game breaker!

Kariya

75 GP 18G 25A
11 GP 2G 13A
82 GP 16G 49A

Dumont

74 GP 17G 28A
82 GP 16G 49A
80 GP 29G 43A

Not really seeing how Kariya is an upgrade over Dumont. Take away 2 seasons ago for injury issues and the numbers are virtually the same. Dumont is younger at this point. With Arnott being gone, I would like to see how Dumont is going to respond. Dumont may not be the largest forward we have but he has more size than Kariya and if we use that as a trade off, does Kariya's speed outweight Dumont's size? I think it's a push at this point. We might be the smurfs up front again and get pushed around by bigger teams. Not sure I want to relive that sort of season again. Lots of points get killed in the playoffs.

I'm quite happy with the team we've got assembled right now. If for some reason SK and Andersson are major busts, I could see how adding PK would be a good move but right now, I'll take my chances with what we have.

I was going to post something to that effect, glenn. I'd rather have Dumont. He's younger, has similar abilities even-strength, and has more size. Plus, if Dumont goes onto IR we aren't on the hook for his entire contract.

Dumont.

If we're signing Kariya for less than $2M, we would be trading Ward or Tootoo to make room for him, not Dumont. I'm not sure I would be okay with that: we need some grit in the lineup beyond the fourth unit. If we fielded, say, these lines...

Sullivan-Wilson-Hornqvist
Kariya-Legwand-Erat
Dumont-Lombardi-Kostitsyn
Andersson-Goc-Ward/Tootoo

... that team is full of little guys and would get obliterated in the playoffs. If we do in fact add yet another forward, it would have to be someone big. Very big. Like, say, 6'4", 220 lbs. with a desire to use it and defensive acumen to go along with his offense.

Kariya is a different player from the one who chased money out of Nashville in 2007. He has missed significant time due to injury, and his consistency issues have only intensified as he has gotten older. He might have one 50 point season left in him on a team like ours, but I don't see why he would sign here when he could go to Pittsburgh for more money, the opportunity to prolong his career by playing with Crosby, and of course, the chance to win a Stanley Cup.

I think Nashville is quite fine with forwards unless Poile makes a move to gain picks. Even then who are you moving? The forwards have a set-up for a 3 scoring line shift with an energy line. We got plenty of energy line players in Milwaukee with Smithson, Goc, and Andersson.

Top 9 is Ward, Legwand, Kostitsyn, Dumont, Wilson, Erat, Lombardi, Sully, Hornqvist.

Of that top 9 who are you losing? Dumont scores at a better clip than Sully. Lombardi, Wilson, Legwand are the centers and they fit well with their roles. Erat and hornqvist are not going anywhere. Ward is a natural 3rd liner. I could see a move for Sullivan only because he's an UFA next year and mostly is gone.

Also, the Preds won last year with even strength play. We all scream and yell about the special teams but the shear fact of the matter is that it's only 5-8 minutes of the game. That's it. With the talent on Nashville I'm more worried about the PK then the PP.

And we forget that Nashville was 8th in the league in wins last year, not a team that scraped by but a solid team. Nashville is a more solid team this year than last. The depth of talent in the forward ranks is scary and can push 3 scoring lines even with injuries.

My main worry is in order: Defenseman depth, backup goal, PK, then PP.

I feel very good about our D men.

Weber-Suter

Enough said

Klien-Boullion

I think this is a solid pairing. They seemed to play well together last year, and the 3rd D spot is Kliens to lose after Hammer left.

Franson-Parent

Poile made it fairly clear that Parent was brought in to compliment Franson, who I think is a very good D man. He has a great shot, good passing ability, and good positioning. Yes, hes slow and, like everyone else, Id love to see more physicallity out of him.

Call ups- Josi, Blum, Ellis (in that order)

Very solid prospects. All of them can fill in for an injury.

I also agree that we dont need Kariya. We have the best top 9 weve had in a while. Our Power Play will be much improved with Lombardi and SK, and if we take SUlly of the point, miracles could happen.

The one thing talking to Junior fans was when SK's team was on the PP they would play with 4 forward up in the offensive zone and just SK at the blue line.

I wonder if he can be used in Pairing with Franson on a second power play where Franson plays the role of Weber and Kostitsyn as Suter and have Suter feed who ever is open?

Already saw it.
Was fun during the regular season...not so much in the playoffs. (Silly me for expecting him to actually elevate his game and make a difference.)

I'll pass this time.

As long as Sully just stats away from our blueline, Im fine with it. I dont know how he would fare facing NHL level defences, but its worth a shot. I dont see Boullion, Klien or Parent being a good PP leader, so we need someone to fill the hole until Blum or Ellis makes the big club.
