As awesome as a trilogy would be, it would derail a fantastic Cruz/Faber matchup.
And if Cruz beats Faber we could still get an awesome trilogy.

Also, if Benavidez wins, Urijah won't likely seek to challenge him for the title.

He'll triangle the **** out of Roller. Pettis has this fight, IMO. His back game is pretty damn good. I can't stand Pettis (think he's one of the most arrogant guys in the game today), but this is his fight to lose.

This is the fight I'm most looking forward to (or would be, if I weren't busy tomorrow night :-\). I think it's far from being in the bag though. Roller's grappling chops should be good enough to stay out of trouble from top position. I think Pettis' striking is better but I expect Roller to go for the takedown early and often.
Champ Dominick Cruz vs. Joseph Benavidez (for bantamweight title) (decision) -- another one that could be close, but I think Cruz has better striking and is just a hair faster.
Anthony Pettis vs. Shane Roller (decision) Chad Mendes vs. Cub Swanson (sub) -- don't remember much about Mendes except that he's another tiny guy who trains with Faber, but Swanson's not great, so... Scott Jorgensen vs. Brad Pickett (sub) -- Pickett's wrestling looked great in his last fight but I don't think it's as good as Jorgensen's. I'm thinking guillotine win.
Zach Micklewright vs. Bart Palaszewski (dec) -- going with the guy I've seen fight
Mackens Semerzier vs. Javier Vazquez
Maciej Jewtuszko vs. Anthony Njokuani Dave Jansen vs. Ricardo Lamas
Bryan Caraway vs. Fredson Paixao Danny Castillo vs. Dustin Poirier

I hope so. I'll stick with Roller as the safe pick but hopefully I'm wrong.
Surprised you think Pettis is so arrogant, I've heard a few long interviews and he doesn't come across like that at all, IMO. Stuff like that is usually pretty easy to notice, which is why I've learned to hate Tyson Griffin.

Surprised so many other people have Roller so unanimously. I just can't vote for a grinding wrestler over a strong submission artist unless there is some reason to believe that the wrestler is above and beyond. It's a mismatch in the submission artists favour.

Does Pettis really qualify as a "submission artist" though? I know he's gotten a couple wins by sub in the WEC but neither were against guys who are particularly good grapplers. Heck, Roller has 4 out of his 5 WEC wins by submission, he arguably has more of a claim to being a sub guy. Pettis strikes me as more of an Alan Belcher type (not surprising I guess since they're from the same camp) -- someone whose base is really kickboxing but has the submission savvy to take advantage if the opportunity presents itself.
Unfortunately for him I don't think his takedown defense is good enough to avoid letting Roller control the fight. His best chance is probably to rock him during a punching exchange, but I'm not sure if he'll get much opportunity to do so. Given that a title shot is on the line, I expect Roller will play it pretty conservatively.

On a related note, here's an excerpt from an interview with Reed Harris confirming that both the Roller/Pettis and Jorgensen/Pickett fights are for title shots: http://www.fightopinion.com/2010/08/...rnandes-dream/
Quote:
LARRY PEPE: “We talked about Scotty Jorgensen. He takes on a very tough Brad Pickett. Scott came on last week and he said he thought it would be impossible for him not to get the title shot if he beats Pickett. That would give him five straight wins. Do you see it that way? Do you think he gets the title shot with a win over Pickett?”
REED HARRIS: “Yeah. I mean, as soon as we see the fight, we want to see how he looks, to make sure there are factors like injuries, etc. that we look at, but if he goes through Brad Pickett, who I think is on a nine-fight win streak and is certainly he shouldn’t overlook and I know he’s not, then I think that would put him in that position where he gets a title shot, yeah.”
LARRY PEPE: “And to your point, for people who aren’t familiar with Pickett because he’s only fought twice in the WEC, this is a guy, Reed, who’s 19-4 overall with 15 stoppages. He had that slick Peruvian neck tie in his debut against Kyle Dietz. This guy is no slouch. If people that think is a walkthrough for Scotty, I think they better be very surprised.”
REED HARRIS: “No, I’ve heard Pickett, you know, as far as a chin has probably got one of the best chins in WEC. And like I said, I think he’s had a nine-fight win streak and this guy’s very, very tough. He trains with Mike Brown down at ATT (American Top Team) in Florida, which is probably one of the best camps in the world, similar to I mean Jorgensen’s got a great camp as well but this is going to be a very tough fight for both of those guys. And by the way, it should be very entertaining for the fans. I got a feeling this is going to be a very, very exciting fight.”
And if Cruz beats Faber we could still get an awesome trilogy.
Any chance you saw the 1st meeting? I've never saw the footage, I know Faber won and I know it was at 145.....
Any details of how close it was would be appreciated. Cruz seems to have improved more out of the 2 of them but that probably has more to do with Faber already being at the top prior.

That's great news, I'm praying Scotty comes through with the win tonight and gets the much deserved shot. He's quickly becoming one of absolute fav's in the game.
