Trades like these totally happen. It's very realistic, and that is I why I don't think it happens.

Sounds like a great deal if we could transport all those flames players back to 2004

Caps are terrible trading partners for almost any NHL team.

They are already better than you.....and they are younger.

The end.

Iginla led the olympics in goals and set up the gold winning goal.

How did Ovechkin's team do again?

bwahahaahahahahahahah

They're called leadership skills and they never go away. I watched Iginla vs. Ovechkin live. It was an absolute gong show for Ovechkin et al and a massive choke.

In all seriousness, Iggy is a great player and prolly has some years left in him but i do not think there is a team in the league that would take him over Ovi (outside the Flames). Kipper is an upgrade over current Varly but that shouldnt even be an argument. Varly is going into his third year, Kipper is established. Regehr was awesome a few years ago, prolly makes too much now. Semin, although soft is an elite player. Could get to 50 this year. His value isnt much cause of the looming UFA status and he will be impossible for the caps to keep. Green gets thrown under the bus so fast on here its not funny. Obviously he is not a shutdown D but thats not what the the team asks him to do. There is not a team in this league that wouldnt put Green in their top 4 (with a stalwart D of course). He also isn't in his prime yet and may even pick up some of those Defensive skills.

I understand that the guys being traded by the Flames are the fan favorite heroes but in 12 years if a team offered the caps some of the best young talent in the league for our aging yet still decent players, it would be insane not to do it. Its not like the Flames will be big contenders this coming season although they will prolly get in.

That said, no way from a Caps fan POV.

No, its not because they don't, its because they can't, as you mentioned, its the cap era. Every other team that has a decent goalie has locked them up, nucks, canes, sabres, and so on...

Kipper signed this contract when he was not 30, and if you look at the other goalies that are in their prime, they got the same contracts.

Every other team would like to have an elite goalie, kipper is by no means an elite goalie anymore, but when he signed this contract, he was considered one of the very best. i doubt any GM or coach wants an average goalie if they can get someone reliable, and kipper is reliable.

So you're saying that a goalie who had 35 wins on a crappy team, 2.31 GAA and .920SV% is worth 3rd/4th rounder? His salary should be around 8-9 million to lower his value to 3rd/4th.

I'm sure thats what Mcphee wants to do. Rebuild basically complete...and lets destroy it! I wouldn't mind Iginla but I believe he is on the decline or will be there very soon. If some of the trade was changed maybe I would feel different, but I don't want Green or Fehr to leave. Semin is good but i've never been sold on him. With Varly I feel a Kolzig/Dafoe type situation is going to occur with him and neuvirth so I wouldn't feel too bad about losing him. Poti, meh whatever. Wouldn't like Knuble to go but he more than likely will be gone soon anyways. I just like to have him around to teach the younger "power" forwards like Fehr and Laich how its done.

That's the problem. The caps aren't offering that.

Their offering 1 year of Semin, Green, and some throw ins.

Like I said before, the Flames franchise would be in absolute ruins if they made this trade. The Caps would probably win a cup. I don't see how anyone can't see this trade as totally slanted towards the Caps. Yes the Flames players are older, but the main piece coming from the caps is not under contract beyond this year and will bolt to the highest bidder and possibly Russia next year.

Nobody in their right might, even the most die hard Flames fan, would take Iggy over Ovy. Iggy, however, is clearly worth a whole lot more than one year of Semin.

I understand if you think this proposal is unfair, but the other players, especially Varlamov and Fehr, are not throw-ins by any definition.

I'm going to borrow my friends template from above.

You're telling me I should trade:

A 2 time Rocket Richard, Art Ross Winning, 2 time 50 goal scoring elite powerforward
A Vezina Trophy winning goalie
An second line 70 point 2-way center
One of the leagues top shutdown defensemen
And a top-4 defensive defender

For:

1 year of a soft russian who can sometimes score when he feels like trying
A defensemen who doesn't play defense
A goalie with 32 games played - only need a small sample size to assess goalies!
A 35+ forward who nearly makes 3 mil and can barely score 20 goals
A pretty good 3rd liner ()
What year is this? Did you step into a strange hot tub last night?

Washington definetly wins the cup within the next 3 years with this trade.

Calgary rebuilds in one trade.

Thoughts?
You wouldn't happen to be a Flames or Penguins fan would you??

Just awful!

For the Flames to get Green alone would take Iggy, 1st round pick and a nice prospect......

Yeah, you better believe age plays a MASSIVE factor here.

Mike Green has 10-12 more stellar years ahead of him while Iggy is on his way down hill and only has potentially 3, maybe 4 more years as a productive player.
