Moving Flash and bringing in Belanger would be good news in it of itself. Than there is space for Perrault or someone else to fill the 2nd line center spot this season and we finally have a real checking line with Chimera-Belanger-Fehr. That's sweet and with a full season on the team, I'd hope Belanger can take on a strong penalty kill role. 1.85 is a nice deal too. What a tease, this is killing me. If this goes through and we actually get some real D out of this than this offseason would be turning around pretty quickly. Can't get our hopes up yet, but its sure hard not to. Come on GMGM, real in some sweet redemption.

BTW... I've accepted Belanger being on the third line. That's fine. Just don't put him on the second line, ever!

Flash can net Kaberle, can't net Regehr

Very true, Toronto is desperate for offense. I'm sure they'd love to have flash. Burke is a moron and stupid so maybe the Caps could get an additional pick out of it?

Not unless he's heading up a package of prospects and picks. Regehr's play slipped this year, and there's a prevailing sense that he's becoming overpaid for what he gives. Sutter apparently loves the guy, however, so I think Sarich would be more obtainable (plus, he has one less year left on his contract than Regehr, which would suit McPhee better).

If we gave up a 1st, we already don't have a 2nd. Is the draft this year supposed to be that bad that we'd be ok just not participating until the 3rd round? Either way I'm with you- I'd still make the deal for Regehr. Just giving up our only pick until round 3 doesn't thrill me.

This is a little far fetched, but a part of me wonders if this could be a sign and trade deal, that he's part of a package? I have a hard time believing that we are parting with Flash, as much as I hope we would.

Personally I think Sarich sucks, we don't need a third pairer at $3.6mil

The flipside is that the Capitals' system is loaded and they just took a number of high reward guys in the 2010 draft. Outside of Andrew Gordon and Patrick McNeill, most of their prospects are still a few years away with much of the Caps' young core already installed at the NHL level. If the return is an impact player like Regehr, taking the risk of losing the first two rounds of a supposedly weak draft probably wouldn't hurt.

Besides, the Caps seem to do better in the third round than the 2nd anyway.

EDIT:

Personally, I think he's better than Bieska and a better fit for the Capitals, especially with one or both of Orlov and McNeill possibly making the roster the following year.

These guys are available because their teams don't want them anymore, and there's usually a very good reason. In the cap world, overpayment is the biggest one.

I know I wouldn't have even seen that tweet if Eric McErlain hadn't retweeted it. And it sounds just like the rumors being discussed on here for weeks, nothing more nothing less, except Mirtle's recent news about Belanger...

I hope not...I like Chimera...would much rather see Steckel gone...Boyd could center the 4th with Belanger handling the 3rd thus not losing the faceoff advantage....I really hope Chimera isn`t going anywhere

********.

On a side note am I the only one on here who wants to keep Chimera? I love what the guy brings, his salary might be a bit much, but its certainly not a horrendous contract.

Chimera would be the second-to-last of the bottom 6 I'd want to see moved, behind Eric Fehr. Love his speed and grittiness on the forecheck.

No, you're not. I'd like to keep the guy around for the duration of his contract, at least. The Capitals don't have much in the system for the LW on the bottom 6, either.

Chimera going instead of Fleischmann doesn't make much sense, because that deal could have been made weeks ago. Fleischmann's arbritation would have held up any talks. And Mirtle--who's pretty reliable and isn't known to post out-and-out rumors--said that Flash was one of the players being shopped, not that he might be one of he players being shopped.

Vancouver and Toronto seem like likely trade partners, McPhee has a connection to both one way or another.

Flash can be a 30 goal scorer on another team, there's no place for him here in Washington with the LWs we have.

It all originated from this guy:

http://twitter.com/krufrank

Who is some random dude apparently; so zero reliability. Chimera would be the guy I'd think the Canucks would target though; possibly Steckel if Chimera's salary is too steep.

EDIT: The other good thing for the Cap here; if the player coming back is Chimera it most likely takes the Canucks OUT of the Mitchell sweepstakes due to the cap.

Just out of curiousity, since Calgary has a glut of Dmen, what about Flash and a pick for Mark Giordano? He was the best +/- on the Flames last year, their leading goal-scorer among defensemen, led the team in hits and blocked shots, and has a cap hit of less than $1 mil (his contract also expires after this year). Or are those all reasons Calgary won't trade him?

Sk8's a female? I knew it, no way a guy would pay so much attention to detail, we are too easily distracted for that. This explains everything.
