Wishful Thinking

With the NHL looking into Lulongos, Prongers, and Savards contracts, wouldnt it be nice if they made PRONGER a free agent? Yes i know he might be the person we hate the most, after campbell of coarse, but do you think we'd have a shot at signing him?

Prongers wife loved living in california when he played with anahiem and since she played a major role in him accepting the anahiem trade from edmonton, could she prove her powers again?

With our cap room id say we would be able to fit him under the cap, while losing only Mitchell/ Huskins. Hed probably command 5.5m or so over 3-4 years. For a defender that good id give him 5.5m/ 4 years. His contract would then come off the books the same time the other stars do.

The only problem would then become that we would have over 30m locked into our top 5 players. It could create some cap problems.

Pronger is a playoff warrior that takes the body, clears the puck well, clears the crease, and can contribute offencively as well. He knows what it takes to win in the playoffs and would be a great replacement for blake.

DW tried to obtain him when he was dealt to Anahiem, but didnt want to give up enough to get him. So he definately would have intrest in signing him.

He could also help develop Petrecki/ Doherty as they play a similar style as him.

Theres about a 5% chance he actually becomes a UFA again, but do you think we could/would get him?

Pronger is one of the best defenseman in the NHL and I'd take him in a heartbeat. He can lead underdogs to cup finals and make any good team great. However it would be very unlikely that he gets released. And if he was, it would be likely that the Flyers re-sign him or Doug Wilson does not want him at all.

Wilson has tried to acquire him twice via trade, there is no doubt in my mind he would offer 7+ if he were to be a free agent, and would move any player save the big four to make it happen.

If Pronger became a free agent I would move anyone on the roster not named Thornton or Marleau if that's what it took.

Realistically, he could move Murray, Huskins, Mitchell and Clowe and makes the space. Even if Pronger got 7m, you'd still have almost 4m left to fill out two spots.

We'd immediately become the favorites this year. Seriously.

It won't happen.

I'd move thornton to get him.

But it's not happening considering pronger made a barely-in-the-playoffs team make it to the finals.

I could still see the fans booing Pronger if he wore teal.

I mean its just such a tradition here... I actually would love to see him here JUST to see him get booed by his own fans

LOL...

I wish we had Pronger too...I'd take him over anybody else in the NHL if I wanted to win a cup. Seriously, he rises to another level, he's the best playoff performer in the NHL...

But it's not anything more than dreaming. He's not coming to SJ, and none of these guys will ever be placed in free agency.

They're going to look at these contracts, examine them, and then not let them happen again.

Boo = Pronger

There's no way to even separate the two. I'd boo him if he was my brother.

They can't void contracts that are simply idiotically overvalue. Otherwise there are so many teams that would be filing.

I would move anyone on the roster except for Boyle. Literally ANYONE! There is no player on this team who be a bigger loss then the gain of Pronger. Any team with Pronger makes the finals, its that simple. Since he left the Blues he brought the Ducks a cup, the Oilers to the finals and the Flyers to the finals. He single handedly makes a team cup contenders. I think only 1 or 2 other players in the NHL can have that impact.

Boyle is your go-to no trade guy? Considering age and value, I'd say Thornton would be the last person to trade, and I'd still think about it.

I seriously would trade Thornton before Vlasic and Setoguchi, and Marleau.

I think you need to stay away from the general board. Your hate on Thornton seems to be increasing everyday. I feel like Thornton is one of the few players in the league who is capable of leading a team to a playoff spot. I'll give you Marleau, two-way forwards with that much speed aren't easy to come by, but Vlasic and Setoguchi, seriously?
Never thought I'd have to defend Thornton on our own board.

EEEK, Vlasic is OK but nowhere near the value of Thornton. The only person in the same league on our team is Marleau. Seto is potential. Thornton is a virtual certainty for a ppg.

Take a deep breath and think some more on that would be my suggestion.

Well, my reasoning behind that is that Thornton is 30 and regressing, meanwhile Vlasic and Setoguchi are both 23 and getting better. And Thornton has proven, time and time again, that he can't lead a team in the playoffs.

Also, why does everybody say that Thornton can lead a team to a playoff spot by himself? He scored 89 PTS this year, good for 8th in the NHL. Not bad by any means, I'm not complaining, but I don't consider him a top-10 player.
