There was actually some chatter that the Kings had interest in Laine (this was roughly 3 months ago) but I'm not sure what came of it..

They couldn't sign him and now they want compensation from us because we drafted him in 2000

If Salvo is still here, I expect the D to look like...

Greene-Volchenkov
Tallinder-Salvador/Urbom
White-Corrente/Eckford/Taormina/Urbom/Salmela
Fraser/Salmela

I expect him to be the #7 d-man with possibly some time on the 3rd pairing. I doubt that Fraser will be on the team on opening night so you can take him out.

I would love to see two of Corrente, Urbom and Eckford make the opening night roster, but I have to wonder if Lou or MacLean would be comfortable with two rookies on defence.

If they're ready, why not?

Beats having Vladimir Malakhov and Dan McGillis on the blue line!

The more I look at these proposed lineups, the more and more it looks like Zubrus will be traded, at least to me.

Assuming Rolston isn't dealt, it looks like either he or Elias will have to move to right, which gives us Zubrus, Langs, Clarkson, Elias/Rolston, Zharkov, and then I see some people mentioning Tedenby going to RW for awhile to our depth at LW already.

Basically, this team kinda looks like a mess . Waiting to see what it looks like a month from now.

I haven´t heard/read anything about his status recently. He hurt his knee in April and went to surgery to repair the torn acl in late May/early June. The recovery supposedly takes at least four months, so he´s going to miss a good chunk from the training camp. Anyway, I doubt he´s fit enough to make the opening night roster coming off an injury that serious.

I believe Salmela will eventually vacate the third pairing and rotate with Fraser and/or Eckford, Corrente. So, assuming Salvador is being moved and no other players are coming in, the outcome isn´t that couraging.

I also assume that Urbom is not making the team outside getting a cup of coffee before going to Albany, since at this point Corrente, Eckford and Fraser are ahead of him since they´ve been in the system for years and are likely to fit into the lineup more quickly than Urbom. But the training camp will eventually show the pecking order and it´s good to have competition for the remaining two or three spots.

Volchenkov-Greene
Tallinder-Corrente
White-Salmela/Fraser/Eckford etc.

On the other hand, if Salvador´s contract can be retained, the defence is instantly better-rounded than without him.

Volchenkov-Greene
Tallinder-Salvador
White-Salmela/Corrente etc

is Urbom ready t play in NHL? I'd rather see him being dominant in AHL first.

same here, i'd keep salvador over white and then trade sal once AU gets fully conditioned in the AHL.

same with eckford, keep fraser around and then deal him.

corrente, i think, is NHL-ready.

maybe try this out

the roster factors in a potential trade ousting salvador and white

Parise Arnott Elias
Kovalchuk Zajac Langenbrunner
Rolston Zubrus Clarkson
Zharkov Joseffson Leblond

Volchenkov Corrente
Tallinder Greene
Salmela Fraser

Brodeur
Hedberg

You don't split up ZZ.

Corrente will not be on the first pairing.

Parise - Zajac - Langenbrunner
Kovalchuk - Arnott - Elias
Rolston - Josefson - Clarkson
Pelley - Sestito - Zharkov
PL3

Greene - Volchenkov
Tallinder - ?
White - Eckford

Brodeur
Hedberg

Assuming Zubrus and Salvador are traded. We need 1 more top-4 defender. This is why it is ideal White is traded.

I like that line up if Zubie has to be traded

Although I'd rather have the rookie with Tallinder on the second pairing then a cheap vet on the bottom pairing with White.

I'd like to see Urbom with Tallinder if he makes the team but I think if Eckford does he would work well with White who can give him some more freedom to play around with the puck and carry it up the ice.

I'd prefer to see Sal stay because he can still play top-4 minutes effectively. At this point, I think it's pretty much a given, Zubrus will be traded. Rolston is unmovable I think and the rest have NTC's. I don't think Lou will force White to waive his. From now on, he has to stop giving them out to his "boys" and only to his top-tier talent. It's coming back to haunt us.

If Urbom does make the team, I think he should play third pairing minutes with Tallinder just to ease in and eventually get top-4 minutes. If that happens, we have to hope White can still eat a ton of minutes effectively. I have a feeling Mottau will be brought back because I don't think 2 rookies will play on the blueline, unless Salmela is ready to go.

Volchenkov - Greene
Tallinder - Urbom/Eckford
White - Salmela/Fraser

I know exactly where we could get a cheap vet who already knows very well how to play with White.

Just to add on, I think everyone will get a shot even after camp. We have a glut of NHL ready defenseman. Someone is going to be traded. I'd prefer if it was Fraser or Eckford if he doesn't make the team. He's closer to 30 then 20 and he should get his chance somewhere else. I believe our need for a PMD will bode well for him though if Urbom isn't ready. Then you have Taormina lurking in the backround. 50 points in your rookie pro season is very impressive. I'd like to see him get a cup of coffee as well and was very surprised he didn't last season when we were having trouble with the PP.

One or more of those defensemen will probably be moved in a salary dumping deal.

Henrique playing 4th line minutes will do nothing for his development. I'd rather him get top minutes in the minors
