The way I see it, one of Lagenbrunner or Zubrus are getting moved with a defensemen, which will probably be Salavador.

ZZ-POPS
Kovy-Arnott-Elias
Rolston-Josefson-Clarkson
Le Blond, Pelley, Henrique, Zarkhov & Davis

Defense:

Volchenko
Tallinder
Greene
White
Corrente, Eckford, Fraser, Urbom & Salmela

what happens when we dress a skill team and play a team with a goon? do we HAVE to fight them? draw straws?

I'm not talking playoffs. It's well known enforcers become scarce in the post season. I'm talking regular season.

Godard is absolutely an enforcer. If you're going to claim otherwise your not well informed.

Detroit don't count. Pitt dressed Godard all year in 2009 and I'll give you Chicago last year. What about Anaheim in 2007? They led the league in fighting majors and dressed Parros all season?

2 of the last 4 winners dressed an enforcer all year.

So by playing anyone but Leblond that automatically changes the line-up to a "skill line-up?" It's one role player. Who exactly do you want to put out there to play 4th line minutes against other teams 4th line's in the East that is stacked with tough guys?

What happens when Boogaard is talking all out runs at Devils players? What happens when he blasts Parise? The whole point of dressing an enforcer is to deter other teams from taking runs at your star players.

You can make your case until your blue in the face for the Devils to dress a "skill team" with no enforcer. Fact is you and I both know Leblond will be playing a majority of the games this year.

LeBlond is going to be in the lineup cause he makes 525K and not many makes less.

In the past 4 years he's only played 6 total games against the Devils and averaged less than 4 minutes of ice time.

He hasn't had many run-ins with the Devils luckily. I agree he's a terrible hockey player but as far as being an enforcer, he's one of the best.

My point is, I like having a tough guy in the line-up to handle the dirty work and protect the Devils players. I don't see the point of putting a "skill guy" to play 4th line minutes and play against other teams enforcers. It makes no sense. That's my view on it. You're entitled to your view and I understand your stance but I for me there should always be an enforcer in the line-up. Luckily for me, the Devils have agreed for the past 15 seasons.

Check the minor signings thread but I don't think he'll be in the NHL next year unless a #5-6 defenseman somewhere goes down with a season ending injury.

Parise--Zajac--Elias
Kovalchuk? - Arnott--Zharkov/Vasyunov
Rolston--Zubrus--Clarkson
Leblond--Pelley--Palmeri
Tim Sestito and Patrick Davis

Tom Gilbert--Volchenkov
Greene<-->Tallinder
Fraser/Corrente--Salvador

Marty
Moose

Zach Parise becomes our new captain. Jamie Langenbrunner, possibly Colin White, and Tyler Eckford or Anssi Salmela to Edmonton for Tom Gilbert.

I would GLADLY package a first rounder to send Rolston on his way. It would be well worth it in order to keep Zubrus. If we could get San Jose to take on Malakhov's cap space, then it can be done with Rolston. Difference being, the new team actually has to pay Rollie, so we take back a salary that we can dump in Albany. Toronto seems like a logical choice with Finger coming back the other way, I just hate to do any favours for the ****ing Leafs and ******-bag Burke.

CAPGEEK.COM CAP CALCULATOR

FORWARDS
Zach Parise ($3.125m) / Travis Zajac ($3.887m) / Jamie Langenbrunner ($2.800m)
Ilya Kovalchuk ($6.666m) / Jason Arnott ($4.500m) / Patrik Elias ($6.000m)
Vladimir Zharkov ($0.850m) / Dainius Zubrus ($3.400m) / David Clarkson ($2.666m)
Rod Pelley ($0.550m) / Dean McAmmond ($0.500m) / P-L Letourneau-Leblond ($0.525m)
Patrick Davis ($0.500m) / / Tim Sestito ($0.500m)

DEFENSEMEN
Anton Volchenkov ($4.250m) / Andy Greene ($0.737m)
Colin White ($3.000m) / Henrik Tallinder ($3.375m)
Mark Fraser ($0.500m) / Tyler Eckford ($0.550m)
Anssi Salmela ($0.612m)

GOALTENDERS
Martin Brodeur ($5.200m) /Johan Hedberg ($1.500m)

BUYOUTS: Jay Pandolfo ($0.833m) / Andrew Peters ($0.166m)

CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $59,400,000; CAP PAYROLL: $57,195,834; BONUSES: $740,000
CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $2,204,166

Rolston & Salvador out. Assume Josefson & Tedenby are in Albany, though we can afford them if they're in NJ too.

EDIT; Forget Toronto, even with their bonus cushion and sending back Finger they don't have the cap space to take on Rolston.

That gives me so hope. I was worried with a lot of people's proposed lineups being loaded with rookies, but that's a pretty experienced squad compared to how it could look.

How's Zubie at center?

Zubrus is decent at centre, he's been doing it for most of his tenure with the Devils. It was only Lemaire who started playing him at wing. So he'll definitely be able to play third line centre if that's what MacLean asks him to do.

This seems reasonable, it looks like you would only need to move either Langenbrunner or Salvador. It would give you enough space to add a 4th line center and still have space available for injury callups.

Those of you asking questions about Motts:

Maybe we sign him 1/2 way through the season? (Like Albelin one year) He could skate with the team as a special coach or something stupid. Almost no cap hit when he signs, and you don't have to trade for some d-backup down the playoff stretch.

Maybe Niedermayer (the good one) realizes in January he wants another Cup and signs with us for a Shanahan 2.0 deal.

I can dream.

If Lou can find a way to sign SCOTT Niedermayer (not ROB) around the All-Star game, I'd cream my pants. The Devils should retire his #27, only to give him a jersey and a pair of skates a couple of minutes later and have him start the game against the Rangers.

Now that would be ****ing sick !!!

Somehow you have Rolston off the cap, even though he was signed as a 35+. Will he be traded despite no one wanting to pay his salary and despite his no trade clause? Or will Lou announce he is "injured"?

You sure about that? I don't about you, but I surely don't know what even 1 NHL GM is thinking, but you know what 29 of them are?

I don't understand blanket statements like this...

I mean, would it surprise me if he was traded? A little, but to say it's not possible is just as egregious an error as those who say he definitely will be moved.

It will need just one stupid GM. 1 out of 29. And it is not like we are aware that trading Rolston will cost us some assets. Something like a first or one of our left wing prospects.
