Yeah, so he makes mistakes.

Why don't you go and flawlessly announce a couple hockey games.

So he's not allowed to make a mistake?

Personally, I would rather see Al Strachan taken off TV.

I agree on Strachan, but I think both Neale and Cole (the best combo on TV over the past decade) are past their primes. Their mistakes have been more and more regular and it may be time to move Cuthbert up to the number one job at CBC. Replacing Neale would be tougher as Millen and Healy are both nightmares of course.

A mistake? Harry "Mats Naslund" Neale and Bob "Sundin Twins" Cole are the kings of mistakes.

How do you mistake Kiprusoff for Aebischer.

I agree that I would be way worse, to the point where I would be sitting silent for 20 seconds just trying to catch up to the play, but you have to admit, those two blunders were pretty damn funny.

It's easier to forgive that than mistaking Kipprusoff for Aeibischer. At least Brad and Andrew have the same last names!

Well, he's right, technically. Harry's got no way of being sure if Aebischer saw the shot. Aebischer's probably at home in Switzerland, and it was the middle of the night there, so he might be asleep and not watching the game.

Speaking of Neale, I'm not sure he's heard of Bill Mosienko. While in this era, it's not likely for a team to come back, even when trailing after 2 periods, but as Mosienko scored 3 goals in 21 seconds, anything is possible. I've heard twice him make a couple bold statements:

Ottawa vs. Toronto, game 7, Toronto up 4-1, 10-7 minutes remaining: "Toronto is going to win this series, and face Philadelphia next round."

Calgary vs. Tampa Bay, game 2, Tampa Bay up 4-1, 10-5 minutes remaining: "The Lightning have tied up this series, 1-1. Next game is in Calgary on Saturday."

They might not be exact quotes, but it's close. Someday, I'd love to see a team battle the odds and come back, just so he has some major egg on his face. Untill then, the mistaking of Kiprusoff for Abeischer and claiming a 9-1 record is undefeated will do.

I think you mean 4-1, in Game 2...

Neale is an idiot and is just as bad as Clement and Levy... They all should be fired and be doing announcing for ping pong or the strong man contests not Hockey...

He makes far more mistakes than he used to even a few years ago. And he's become more and more curmudgeonly with each passing year. I prefer having audio from the radio these days over CBC.

Of course ABS is showing the games. I believe they show SCF and maybe even CFs every year.

Didn't Harry Neale have both teams backwards for an entire shift in Game 1? It seemed he had no previous knowledge of either team, and was just going by numbers. I remember him refering to Chris Clark as Fedotenko, Montador as Cullimore, and the reverse. Maybe it was just me?

Harsh

I think you guys are way too harsh on Cole and Neale. These guys are 70 years old and are still the best in the business. Watch the highlights and tell me Bob Cole isn't on his game!

http://nhl.com/intheslot/watch/video/index.html

I find the games are definitely more exciting to watch with these guys than they were with Cuthbert and Millen (ugh). And Cole mistaking players is not nearly as annoying as the broken English Cuthbert uses (dropped articles, etc. in order to keep up with the play), and Cole and Neale don't start chatting in the middle of play.

People talk about how the ratings are terrible in the US because of the teams, and because the games are boring... well, I think that's in part due to the terrible broadcasters they have, who just make the games sound really boring. If they had a team like Cole & Neale, a lot more people would watch, guaranteed.

As a Wings fan don't make me remind everyone of the game with LA with less than 6 minutes to go and the Wings leading 3-0. It wasn't the Wings who won that game.

That is because it is wishful thinking on ABC's part. they are stupid enough to think there would be better ratings if Colorado was playing.
