Proud of last year's team: Pens and Caps now have no chance for 4 in a row.
I don't even think the guys on the team last year thought of it, but knocking off the Caps and Pens last year means the Pens will likely never win 4 cups in a row, and prevented the Caps from winning the first one. And that's the hardest one to win.
I think Guys like Gomer, Gionta, Moen and Gill refused to be awed by the Caps and Pens, because they had won cups themselves.
The boys did good. Because of them, and of course all the other guys last year, 4 in a row remain the preserve of the Habs, and the wonderful Islanders after them, who deserved it. (Potvin, Bossy and Trottier on the same team at the same time? Fuggedaboudit!)
Unlike tank your way to the top Pens and Caps. Who?
Let's not even talk about 55-59, 5 in a row, that's never going to happen again.
So when we complain about cap hits, and Lapierre's yapping, and AK's maddening inconsistency, and Gomer's contract, remember one thing:
The Habs of 2009-10 helped preserve the most important record of 2 great Habs teams before them. I for one raise my glass to that!
Well the Pens think they can play the season like this and pick up a couple decent wingers near the deadline probably. They have been gearing up for the playoffs the last couple of years but eventually this is going to hurt their farm system.
Need better wingers ---> trade for some at the deadline--> weaker farm---> can't develop good wingers, etc.
And all this time I was thinking about how the Flyers stopped our drive for 35.
Do you have a Sports Almanac from the future? Did we just stop 2 dynasties in the same year? What do you think the repercussions will be?
Sigh. You guys are too serious. I'm back to explain a bit. Yeah it's a bit of a wierd random idea, and of course nothing can be predicted. Leave the Caps out of it, fair enough...all I was trying to say is that for a while there I really thought the tank till you get 3 great draft pick Pens might, just might, put a run of cups together.
And the fact is, by ousting them last year, the Habs ensured that they have to start over, 2 years older, 2 years closer to when UFA problems appear again...you get the idea.
I liked your responses. And yes, I'd rather have the Habs winning cups themselves than simply preserving old records. None the less, I am proud of that team last year!
