"Burke Only A Man Of His Word"

It's a very good read.

I recommend the younger fan base take a peak. Kaberle is not the 'make or break' of this organization

Absolutely none.
Good article by Berger.

Read this earlier today...

I usually think Berger's an *** who has too much self interest as a member of the media and can't give credit where credit is due...

But I actually agreed wholeheartedly with him on this one.

I forget that Kaberle was a STUD in the Olympics, and I can only imagine with the little bit of talent that Burke added to this roster how valuable keeping him could be.

The leafs are improved from the start of last year and WILL fight hard for that final playoff birth. Even if they fall short it's gonna be one hell of a fun year to watch hockey.

Kaberle was a stud last year when he had Komi protecting his as*

This year he'll have one of Schenn, Komi, Phaneuf.

Kaberle will once again be a 50 point + dman.

Its funny, I was wondering earlier "wonder what that ****** bag Berger wrote". I vowed to myself I would never open one of his articles again ever. I'm going to be a man of my word.

Anyone wanna paraphrase?

Now that Kaberle is staying, one of the things I'm definitely looking forward to this season is the healthy Komisarek-Kaberle pairing for a full year.

You think that will be the pairing?

I would be more inclined to think it'll be Phaneuf- Kabi and Komi-Gunnarsson.

Thoughts?

If it's an article where he didn't bash the fans I'd question if he actually wrote it .

At the beginning of last season that pairing was one of the only positives we had.

I'm looking forward to it again.

He still does,

but only at the ones who thinks this is the end of the leafs and will break them for another 5 years.

i see no harm in trying Phaneuf with Kaberle. i had my doubts when we acquired him...but Kaberle and McCabe formed an elite pair for years, and Phaneuf and McCabe are very similar, so...

plus, i don`t want Beauchemin playing huge minutes again.

Kaberle and Phaneuf are the only dmen we have imo who can log 25+ a night. whether they make a good pair though, remains to be seen...but they should absolutely try them together.

Kaberle and Phaneuf are dead opposites, so they would possible compliment each other.

I kinda like the fact that those two could reach 50 points easy. How many more teams have two 50 point dmen.

I say split them.

You know what on second thought I think you're right.

I could easily see a Phaneuf/Gunnar, Kaberle/Komi, Schenn/Beauch lineup.

Then have Dion and Kabby line up together on the PP.

I seem to remember RW tried Beauchemin and Schenn and it didn't work out...

Phaneuf and Beauchemin were pretty good together last year...

Phaneuf-Beauchemin
Kaberle-Komisarek
Gunnarsson-Schenn
Lebda

Kaberle said he wants to be a Leaf for life. Time for him to sign his retirement contract. Wonder if Kaberle is a man of his word?

I think Gunnarsson easily merits Top 4 minutes, and you could probably say the same for Schenn, but in all likelihood Top 4 minutes will go to the big four veterans. And for good reason considering how much of a talented, productive, and experienced quartet they are.

My guess is Ron Wilson sticks with Phaneuf-Beauchemin. And personally I think pairings of Phaneuf-Beauchemin and Kaberle-Komisarek make sense from a style-complement point, they mesh well.

But it seems I feel very differently about Beauchemin than some/many other Leafs fans in this forum. Personally I love having him on the team. He is a very good defender, he takes on the challenge of facing against the opponent's best forwards, he's a workhorse, he's a quiet leader who doesn't have to be the alpha male, he listens to his coaches, he's seen it all on the ice, and he's a model and example to all of our youth in both the organization and the community. I am in no way eager at all to move Beauchemin, he's a quality player, he can be part of the solution instead of part of the problem like some former Leafs.

And that leaves talented youngsters Schenn and Gunnarsson as the third pairing. Which, on a side note, might help the Leafs a bit considering they are both going into contract (RFA though mind you) years, all the while providing excellent depth.

And Lebda as the #7 defenseman. That's great depth, what you need to be a quality playoff team.

Having great goaltending, quality veteran defenseman, and then going with tenacious and talented young forwards is a formula that I personally like and adhere to.

So after being offered up in trades multiple times after stating he wants to stay with the Leafs, you'd criticize him if he decided to leave this summer?

Also, I'm a little confused why Leaf fans want him to have a career year when hes going to be a FA. He's already considered by many to be underpaid, and now you want him to post his best numbers?
