Blackhawks Sign F Fernando Pisani

According to TSN's Ryan Rishaug on his twitter:

Quote:
Pisani signs with the Hawks

Rishaug tweets:

Quote:
One year one way for pisani
Quote:
500k one year one way deal for pisani.

----

For those in doubt of Pisani's penalty-killing prowess, here's an interesting analysis by the Edmonton journal:

Quote:
[...]
You've all heard of players with a "good stick" defensively. Well, Pisani has an excellent stick, the best stick. He has a great sense of where to position himself at the top corner of the box in order to deflect, deny or pick off passes.

In 2008-09, in 91 minutes of penalty killing, he made just one mistake that contributed to a goal against the Edmonton Oilers, by far the best rate on the team. By comparison, Ethan Moreau made 17 such goals against-contributing errors in 199 penalty kill minutes last year.[...]

Here is the rest of the article.

Well, I guess they'll have to update his ulcerative colitis commercial.

I'd wager it's for a fair bit less than he was making based on that one good playoffs he had.

Eh... he hasn't been much of an NHL player the last couple of years. Injury and illness has dramatically decreased his effectiveness. At this point he's not much more than a 4th line winger/extra forwrad.

But good for Fernando in getting another job! He'll always be loved in Edmonton for his heroics in the 2006 playoffs. But that was a long time ago, and he is a fraction of the player he used to be.

Hopefully the guy stays healthy. He has been very unlucky ever since luck shone on him in the spring of 2006.

I can't say the same for myself. The guy has been beyond bad, even when healthy.

I love Fernando, but was time for him to move on from Edmonton, but he should be really solid in a Bottom 6 role for the Blackhawks.

It wasn't that long ago if you're a long time Shark's fan!

If (and I know it's a big if) he can stay healthy, biiig steal by Chicago.

Loved him as an Oiler.

Good luck Pies.

So does this imply Chicago has another trade coming up then?

No, they're not. Remove Huet and it's fine.

Good for the Hawks to get some more experience on the bottom lines. It's a role Pisani should be able to handle.

Gotta say, there were quite a few signings recently that stayed in among the masses.

but, Fernando Pisani = Sticky in my book!

then again, that Montreal/Tampa AHL trade went like 15 pages.
