Frantisek Kaberle Sr. on his son: Tomas Kaberle won't re-sign if Wilson is coach

this article from a Czech hockey magazine says Kaberle's Father indicated that Kaberle would welcome a trade from the Leafs and won't re-sign with the Leafs at the end of the season.

If true what do the Leafs do now? Does this force their hand into trading him? Does this make his value less as other GM's know he wants to be moved? Do people think this is legit? If so, it doesn't look real good for Burke.

Why would he honestly resign tho.

1. He'll want a NTC
2. They have openly tried to trade him for a couple years
3. They dont contend
4. They won't pay as much on the open market

Wouldn't be particularly surprised if this were true; don't see why the guy would want to continue through a rebuild at his age. He just wants to be able to choose where he signs in the off-season.

I don't get it. Burke needed to trade the guy, but didn't?

Why can't he just punt a guy outta dodge anymore like he did with Fedorov?

I also don't get the timing of this announcement. AFTER Aug. 15th? Too late!

I think people should prepare for the inevitable. He'll be pressured to waive his NTC all season long. And Kaberle will leave as a UFA. For headlines.

Once the season starts and hockey is being played this should all go away.

Frantisek Sr. doesn't seem to know that Kaberle was well aware of what playing in Toronto was like long before he asked for a NTC.

Not really, it means that if they trade him, he has a better chance of re-signing with the team he is traded to, rather than bolting back to Toronto.

but the teams who are interested no longer have to overpay, since toronto either loses him at the end of the year, or loses him via trade, they now have zero leverage in negotiations, if this report is true

The only person who tried to trade Kaberle was old man Fletcher.

If Burke was trying to trade Kaberle he'd be gone by now. It isn't difficult.
