Roy's top 5 goalies of all-time

Patrcik Roy has mentioned a couple of years ago his top 5 goalies of all-time. Does anyone remember who are they?

I remember 3 of them:

- Patrick Roy
- Terry Sawchuck
- Roberto Luongo
- ?
- ?

I know that it isn't Brodeur or Hasek. Who are they? Dryden and Plante???

He said Luongo was top 5 all time, a few years ago?

Yes he did. I think it was the year when Theo won Hart/Vezina.

Well, it wasn't in term of accomplishment. I think that he mentioned the best 5 goaltenders to play the game in his opinion. I think Luongo has the talent to be considered on the list, even if he didn't accomplish anything yet. We'll see in the next 5-10 years to see if Roy is right or wrong.

I love that Roy mentioned himself!

Classic Roy - putting himself in his own list!

You can't blame him. He's probably number one, no question.

I don't know this for sure but I'd bet that Tretiak was on that list.

To be on a top 5 goalie list all time, within the next 2-3 years, Lehtonen would have to have a GAA below 1 and win the vezina each year.

Luongo has been a great goalie for years and has improved every year. The skill has always been there, not necessarily the numbers.

Yes, he'll be good....It's not that bold of a prediction however. He is the #1 ranked prospect.

Why did he only play 4 games in the NHL yet??? I just look at his stats and they are amazing. Last year, in 4 ganes with the Thrashers, he has a 4-0 record, 1 SO and .953 Save Percentage. WOW!

Agreed. If regular season preformance is all that mattered, Cechmanek would be one of the 5 best goaltenders in the NHL right now.

Luongo is the most hyped G man to ever play the game.No one was ever greater when drafted, no one automatically is put on top 5 lists so soon after becoming a starter, no other guy has received more praise, for so little. He is a media creation.

Interesting list Roy put out, but I'd still take Ken Dryden over him any day as the best G man I've ever seen.Glenn Hall was even pretty darned good in his twilight yrs, let alone his prime.Bernie Parent would best Brodeur, as would Tony O...

Ken Dryden... 6 Cups in 8 seasons...nuff said. On a Patrick Roy note, I think he only beat the Bruins once in the playoffs, and they beat him on 3 seperate occasions... Cam Neely owned Patty Roy... The Habs hadn't lost to the B's in the playoffs in almost 50 years, and along Roy came, and then we couldn't beat 'em... just an observation.

Yeah, a great goalie who hasn't even led the Panthers to the 9th spot, let alone the playoffs.

Top 5 of all time:
1.Hasek
2 Plante
3.Esposito (15 SO in 1 season!!!)
4.Roy
5.Tretiak

Roy is more overrated as Ovechkin is on this site.

edit:added Plante in

You can't compare Habs from Patty Roy era with Habs of Dryden...
You can't even compare Dryden's team to any other teams.
And the Bruins were strong in early '90...Remember Mike Milbury's teams?
Always tough & talented...

Ahh.. The traditional "hasn't been to the playoffs" cop out. So predictable.

You can put Gretzky in his prime on a horrible team and they wouldn't make the playoffs.

A Horrible team that had a halfway decent offense?Jokinen,Horton,Weiss,Val Bure (until the deadline) aren't that bad as your top 4 forwards. You're making it seem that Florida was just as bad as Washington.
