Who is this year's up and comer

The Carkner thread had me thinking about how he came out of nowhere and now is considered one of the tougher guys in the league. Same thing with Konopka once he stuck in aline up full time

So who are some guys that will make a name for themselves this year that aren't very well known around the league.

For the wings Abdelkader isn't a heavyweight at all but he will be hated around the league this season. He can play the game, hits like a truck and will probably fight 10 times. I know he isn't a heavyweight but hes a potential 20 goal scorer who can agitate well.

Who else is gonig to come up this year?

Brandon Mashinter. If he gets a chance to stick in San Jose ( has an outside shot to make it out of camp) he will be a decent light heavy weight.

Was a top 3 guy in the OHL but tried to become a skill player and his fighting skills took a step back

Same pick as the Carkner thread if he sticks with the big club this year. Matt Corrente.

Kevin Westgarth, if the Kings give him a serious shot.

Also the Sharks may have a rookie enforcer with Shelley gone.

Patrice Cormier drew some Bobby Holik comparisons during prospect camp

Also, Arturs Kulda should get a shot, and his exploits are in this thread.

Matt Martin should become a good heavyweight. He has a good shot at making the Islanders this season, and if not out of camp he will be among the 1st forwards to come up. Martin fights, hits, and has good hands in front of the net.

Ryan White will get over 150 PIM if he's on the roster.

Watch out for Westgarth in LA. Dude is a beast. Plus he has some decent hands too so he will get some playing time.

Yeah I can't believe it was only like 5 years ago and he was playing junior C in Blenheim Ontario. I watched him a lot when he was with Sarnia. He is a great character player.

I'm pretty sure Duco is more of an agitator isn't he? When he was with Kitchener he was always a ********* against the sting

Matt Bradley, only kidding he must be loving the fact that Washington signed King saves his arse. Zac Rinaldo from the Flyers if he makes it out of the camp.

i dont think heavyweight but tough middleweight? sure. i think if he plays 50 games were looking at 7-13 fights and being a good bodyguard of tavares. really looking forward to seeing him this year. check out the highlights of his game against ottawa. he had three great hits that game, one open ice hit in the isles zone in teh second period, and then one on carkner towards the end and 3 seconds later he lays out michalek. love that energy he brought.

also he was there for okposo and went right for phaneuf and was there for tavares when ohlund layed him out and fought thompson with a great spirited scrap. love that kind of stuff.

Matt Martin a HW?
Another example of hfboards having absolutely no clue about the fighting aspect of the sport.

I hope your joking. Bodie is willing but just doesnt quite have it figured out. I have seen him fight in the WHL and then on hockeyfights.com you can see lots of his Pro fights. He will definately go but with his size he is more of a light-heavy but lacks real punching power.

yeah i wouldnt say he is a HW, not yet at least. he is getting bigger (i think i remember him saying he was 6'3 215) and he has been practicing fighting with trevor gillies and has a good fight record
