Considering that Witt didn't even factor into the NYI's plans on defense, I'd say this effectively closes the door on his NHL career.

i think if he's willing, a few teams would have him as a minimum-salary 7th.

I think there will be a few teams that might look at the fact he didn't adjust to the Islanders system and give him a chance with a cheap deal

I can easily see Witt continuing his career with an AHL team desperate for a shut-down defenseman. Probably won't be a factor in the NHL anymore, though.

If he wanted to come to camp for the Pens and compete for the 6th spot I wouldn't be against it. If he wants a deal before he'd go to a NHL camp though then yeah no dice.

It was the beat writer so "they" didn't really do anything. Although this is typically how "they" let out information.

Witt is done. I'd be shocked if he plays NHL minutes anywhere.

Ken Holland has been looking for a grit player for the Wings. I don't think hes a great fit, but then again I have never been the GM of a Cup wining team. I wouldn't be surprised if they gave him a 1yr 500k offer.

Witt is completely, utterly finished.

The only reason he was still in the NHL the past two season was because he had a long-term contract with a bottom-tier club. He hasn`t been an NHL-calibre defender since 2008.

He was embarassingly bad last season and was even ventilated defensively after he was sent to the AHL for the final 30 games of the season.

I think Witt's days in the NHL are over. He could just retire now if he wants. Now, he is just far to slow and has difficulty with the speed of today's young players. Unfortunate, but he was bad last season and simply can't keep up anymore.

What was it, injuries that curtailed his career? All I remember was he was a tough SOB, solid defensively, which makes me intrigued to get a look at him in the preseason/exhibition and maybe offer a 1 year 500K contract, if he plays decent, for the 7th dman spot.

The islanders weren't interested when his contract could've helped them get to the floor in that role. He's done.
