Its all about style though, white pads are boring, how you look > how you play.

Naw man. Rick makes the mostly all white work while having a slick reference to the shoulder patch. I think that's sicker than the "IN YO FACE" designs.

I like the white too. Seems like it might make it slighly harder for opposing shooters to aim correctly for the net, especially if they're going for the five-hole. Might be subtle, but take every advantage you can get.

I read a story about some professor at Ottawa U who said that white pads blend in with the ice and makes the 5 hole and other open areas less obvious to the shooter especially at high speeds. When I saw the barber pads, I was like "awww crap".

M.A. Fleury apparently received a letter from this professor who is a fan, switched out of those yellow ones he had and his game improved.

Can't argue with science.

I don't think it's Ottawa U, but the rest of that statement is correct. Read that also. Makes sense

Maybe contrast with the white ice and boards had something to do with it, but I remember the doctor said that yellow in particular was very quickly recognized by the eye.

When Fleury was injured in the 2007-2008(I think) season his doctor told him that he noticed Fleury let it a lot of 5 hole goals, he suggested him switching to white pads from the yellow banana pads because bright colors are very attractive to people and players would be more inclined to shoot at the pads.

I liked the barberpole pads, they looked awesome.
That said, I do agree that white pads are more practical and DiPietro's are pretty slick.

I remember something about some expert in something or other from Ottawa senind a letter to Fleury saying that yellow is the most obvious colour to the human eye.

The white pad thing is so very over emphasized IMO. It may make an EXTREMELY minor difference.

I, like the others, wish for Leclaire to use white pads as well. Something like MAF.

Every Cup wining goalie since the lockout has worn white pads.

A difference is still a difference. I would take any legal edge or advantage over my opponents if I was in the NHL. Why not?

That is not a fair comparison. Eddie was so awesome he could have won the cup with a security guard strapped to one leg and a call girl to the other.

jk.

Eddie was my idol growing up. Still have his rookie card framed on my wall.

New pads? Thank God! Those barber poles looked awesome but made him look smaller in net. Snipers love when goalies look small... it boosts their confidence.

....

If anything, it would be beneficial to the GOALIE if he looked small, as he would in fact be bigger than he appears.

If a goalie looks big the player is trying to harder to make a perfect shot and may miss the net or hit the post or what not. Leclaire looks small and played small so he has to make fast reaction saves instead of letting the puck hit his body more.
