Good deal.

Now he can go to work on signing Stammer to a 4.5m/year deal

How is it not under league value? 22 goals 46 points for $1.85 million and he is only getting better. If he cuts his PIM a bit to about 125 he will have even more icetime and score some more points, although his penalties arent bad, most are standing up for the team or he drew more than he took.

Kick-ass deal. Stevie's doing a great job.

Tampa Fans should be really happy this off-season, and looking forward to the start of the season.

Uh what? Army was a UFA going into his prime, Downie is still a very young RFA will little options. Any chance to rip on the Leafs though I suppose...

Backstrom signed for 6.7 per so it's no surprise if SY can sign Stamkos for less 7 or less

The Lightning will win the cup this year because Stevie Y can do no wrong.

He is a huge ******. Like, he's the one of like, three players I wish badly on in this league.

However, he is a very talented ****** and this is a good deal.

If he goes on to earn top 6 minutes (or at least figures into some PP success), $1.85M could end up being a big "steal". Bets should be placed right now for the % raise he gets after this contract. I expect a decent year out of A.Kostitsyn (20G, 50Pts), for example, and I still expect Downie to match his production, so... just as an example - possibly same production for half the cap hit = no criticism from Habs fans.

Also this is a good deal. They paid about market value for Downie. Instead of overpaying.

No, I don't think you get what I'm saying.

Downie is worth about 3.

What does "league value" mean?

By the way, does anyone else find it ironic that a Sens fan posted this thread?

I think it's a fair price.
Agreed, a lot of them are because of rep but some really were dumb at times. Hopefully if he can cut back about 50 pims he'll see a little more ice and be a little more productive. Heres to hoping.
