There have been several trade rumors surrounding the Flames over the last few days with sources from Canada to Russia saying a deal could be coming any moment. Tonight, I finally got the key names the Flames have interest in...Brandon Dubinsky and Jeff Carter. The Flames having huge interest in both players and are believed to be offering some rather intriguing/creative trade packages..
For what it is worth this was around a lot last yr also
Not terrible, but I could see this coming back to bite us in the ass in a huge way. Dubi goes on to be a 60-70 point player for the next 10 years and Iginla scores 60 points for 2-3 years, then drops off and retires as his body breaks down. I would've liked Iginla 5 years ago. Not for Dubi right now.
I really love Dubi's game and you can SEE his potential. It's there. He needs to take the next step and I'm confident that he will. There aren't many players on the FLAMES that would make me change my mind.
The Flames would certainly have to take back more salary than just Dubi if Iginla were going the other way.
Staal Rozsival
Del Zotto Regehr
McDonagh Staios
Eminger
Lundqvist
Biron
LOVE the look of this team! Wow. We're suddenly bigger, stronger, and much more skilled up front and much more well-rounded on defense. And the trade proposal, while unLIKELY is actually quite fair value-wise and makes sense for both teams. Well, I doubt Calgary would trade Regehr and Iginla in the same package without getting an elite talent in return, but maybe they see Girardi as a younger poor man's version with potential, and maybe we add another prospect or pick somewhere. Do they want Dubi this bad? Haha, Thoughts?
Honestly, the only thing that the Flames have that I'd want in exchange for Dubi is draft picks - and I'd want a healthy helping of them. The whole point of trading Dubi (if we do) is to get meaningful players or assets in exchange that can add to our core for the future. A 30 year old Regher or 33 year old Iginla doesn't fit the bill (especially not at his cap hit).
they are already $1.8M over cap and given our cap situation and Staal being unsigned, I don't see how this would work out. I don't think they trade Iginla. Especially since they got his old buddies in Tanguay and Conroy (and even Jokinen) back. Bourque and Stajan were just resigned. Bouwmeester isn't moving. We aren't taking Kotalik back. Can't see them moving Backlund either, but maybe?
I guess if Redden is really off the books (I'm not gonna count on it till it actually happens), we should have about ~$3.5-4M in cap space. Can't think of any deal that makes sense. Dubi + Gilroy for Regehr + Glencross? Can't say I'd be a fan of that deal. Dubi + Gilroy for Regehr + Backlund? I can't see Calgary doing that.
If the Rangers flip Dubinsky for Regehr and then send Staal to Anaheim for Bobby Ryan, that's something I could live with...
Yea that's something I wouldnt mind seeing happen. Regher still has some good years left in him and Bobby Ryan is just starting his career in the NHL and already has 2 30 goal seasons. Plus that really sets up our RW situation by having Gaby, Ryan, Cally as the top 3 Rws

I'd agree to such a dream scenario, too. Just remember one thing:
Regehr was a great defenseman, but he's lost a step and it's hurt his game. Still a good player that I would love on my team, but he shouldn't be your number one defenseman. Then again, neither should Staal, but he's better than Regehr at this point.
Otherwise, only Backlund interests me on that team for Dubinsky. Pass on Iginla. Too old, and past his prime.

Personally, I would stick with Staal and Dubi. Staal is 7 years younger, has already passed Regehr's career high in points, and is only improving. While Ryan is clearly better than Dubi, I think Dubi could eventually be a perennial 30 goal scorer, starting as early as this season.
You can't move Staal right now, even if it means Bobby Ryan. There is just not enough depth, nor a single defender in our system that can even come close to what Staal already is.
With that being said, the only way I move Dubinsky to Calgary is if Backlund + is coming in return.
LOL Eklund been trying to trade Dubinsky for a while now. There is no one I would realistically trade Dubi for on Calgary anyway. Dubi is part of the young core I dont see the need to trade him anyway unless you are getting a ridiculous amount in return. Fans wanting to trade Dubi are just wanting to make a move for the sake of making a move.

In what world could we afford that? Regehr carries a 4.02 cap hit for the next 3 years and Ryan will get at least 5 mil a year. Unless we are doing these deals after the season starts, we can't fit them both under the summer cap.
There's not one player on calgary that I would trade Dubi for. Not one.
Every time I hear a rumor about Dubi being traded I go by this benchmark: if Sather didn't include him in a trade for Heatley, who is a top 5-10 player in this league, why would he include him in a trade for what will be obviously a much lesser player? Doesn't make sense to me.
